Thanks for the replies although I'm normally a level headed chap...this as me worried as a carer I have to go out and my client also likes to move about in the community and I have to support him , he may not fully understand the current situation and wouldn't choose to self isolate, but I work for a responsible company who's keeping up to date with the situation.13

I am a bit panicked too. I'm anticipating to be healed enough to be back at the germ factory later on next week and I am temporarily living with DM (until early summer) who is in heart failure. Both of us are in the risk group identified by MrsL. Our friend who'd help normally if she were ill and I was living/working elsewhere has also been informed his medication makes him more susceptible. As I've said before, I've too much time on my hands to fret. I'm getting in to routines but finding it hard (as I anticipated pages and pages back) to avoid touching my face. We went to the supermarket for milk, bread and veg (a routine shop) and it was busier than I've ever seen it, Christmas included! I did do a bit of minor prepping - work lunches. After the Beast from the East, even once the snow had gone, it was hard to get fruit and veg for over a week an soup and salad was a no-no. A few days of tinned lunches will be stowed there IF my drawer hasn't already been raided for the hand sanitiser that was already there and the emergency sweeties. Never sure what I'm going back to after a longish absence!10

I'm worried for my neighbour who runs the village post office in her front room one morning a week. She is in her 70s and her husband is in frail health and in his 80s. Aside from the risk of that in itself, they are still supermarket shopping - sometimes in the nearest big town 20+ miles away. It's mainly the older village folk who use the post office. I can see her bringing back the virus and finishing off herself and half the village! I've been on at them to re-think their shopping arrangements but also I think the post office arrangement needs to change. No way would I be holding a post office in my home at this time11

It is a worry, isn't it, Pineapple? Tomorrow's activity to build back to working fitness is a walk to see if my former neighbours are ok and have a plan. There are three or four in their eighties and nineties who have been fairly able to manage but don't have family close enough to help out and who don't have the internet.11

I am a health Care Assistant ( used to be called auxiliary nurse ) in a large hospital and I'm due to go back to work next week after taking some annual leave, I have to admit im a bit worried about how bad this is going to get but I would be human if I wasn't a bit worried,I do have faith that my hospital trust will do it's very best to look after the staff so we are put at as little risk as possible, we have protective clothing and are trained to deal with infectious patients without putting ourselves at risk,I know it's really hard but please try not to worry about your son, being a nurse he will know the risks and how to reduce them

Yay,I managed to buy a thermometer today.......I know I know,I should have one anyway 😟 I felt like I was buying something dodgy, there weren't any on the shelves so I went and asked the assistant behind the counter.....I sidled up looked furtively behind me and asked do you have any thermometers, she looked furtively backed before very quietly informing me she had two left under the counter but that was the last two, so I bought one for £4.99 as opposed to the last one left in Boots for £49.99
I am now as ready as I can be I think,I'm still going to add to my small stocks of tinned food and non perishables instead of waiting until everything has run out before I go shopping,I am never going to put myself in a position of not having any food in in an emergency ever again, the lesson has definitely been learned in this houseOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,12013 -
Onebrokelady I bought that very Boots one today for £49.99! 😂 My other one is hopelessly inaccurate - whenever I use it it thinks I've died. So I figured now is the time to upgrade, but my goodness, what a price!
Otherwise my prepping at the moment is focused on figuring out how to wrap my parents in cotton wool without annoying them.8 -

baggins11 said:Daz, If you can't get through to 111 then I would phone your gp surgery. I heard someone on the radio who had symptoms say he struggled to get through to 111 even now before the peak. He kept getting cut off in the queue. He also spoke to his doctors surgery who gave him sound advice. Obviously don't try to go in but you should be able to get through to your gp surgery if 111 fails.
