My DH and I wrote a list of the contents of our kitchen last night there are lots of gaps in our food supply, we have lots of "dinner" main ingredients but very little frozen veg left etc. Ive booked a click and collect tesco for the weekend the last slot but just added anything so that I could reserve the slot and amend the order today.
I would think I have a week down here before the next lot of panic buying happens.9 -
I think so long as you don't touch stuff as soon as it comes into the house, then wash your hands. If you leave in the cupboards a few days I assume the virus would be dead. It would be a hard job to disinfect everything. I'm even wary of post these days and dispose of it and wash hands thoroughly.pineapple said:
I received my delivery wearing disposable nitrile gloves. Some contents could be decanted to storage jars. Others like tins are in my cupboards. Will either have to clean the outside or wash my hands after handling or hope any virus dissipates over time. It's probably overkill at the moment but it's good practice. I have to say I'm concerned as I know my lungs won't handle any infection. Plus I think the direction of travel could see far reaching effects on our society that we can't even imagine at the moment.unrecordings said:
Spent the entire day getting deliveries going through stuff, and trying to avoid contaminating the house with boxes that had been 'touched'. Will hopefully start a thread covering this tomorrow AM while I wait for the district nurse
I cannot believe how complacent people still are.
Has anyone set up home delivery for prescriptions? Think I need to do that for hubby - but not if it involves spending ages in chemist of Drs trying to sort it out!

Wednesday of last week my dental surgery shut as one of the dentists was confirmed with coronavirus, then yesterday i got a text from my doctors surgery saying they had shut too and would only deal with people via the phone. Both of these places are in walking distance and used by all the locals. It makes me wonder how many people in my area are infected too.
Im praying the government announce a shut down here today as i want DS1 to get told to work from home. He is on immunesuppressents and has to get the tube to work and back every day.
I’ve started to get ready for rationing here, making sure DH and i eat smaller portions and i’m also trying to count my squares of loo roll when i go! (Sorry if tmi)

The thing is we only find out after the event about cases in our area and people could have been shedding virus for days with no symptoms. Anyway you have just reminded me that I need to cancel my routine dental check up thanks. PS another one here on immune suppressants. Best of luck.dandy-candy said:Wednesday of last week my dental surgery shut as one of the dentists was confirmed with coronavirus, then yesterday i got a text from my doctors surgery saying they had shut too and would only deal with people via the phone. I firmly believe that anyone in this situation should automatically be able to work from home (somehow!). Those in the high risk category should have been allowed to do this last week. Luckily we are not in the high risk category but my husband works in London and it’s a worry with the sheer volume of people who travel into and around London.dandy-candy said:Im praying the government announce a shut down here today as i want DS1 to get told to work from home. I can't see how there isn't going to be a massive cull of the elderly and sick - and I tick both boxes. Some bright spark on the radio today advised that people stop visiting their elderly family and set them up with social media accounts to keep in touch. 'Scuse me? Apart from the fact that it's a bit late in the day for many elderly people to learn IT, social media won't get bums on toilets or prepare a meal. I've been ill myself recently and a friend in the village has kindly been doing some shopping for me. But she still insists on doing her shopping at a large supermarket in a town 20 miles away. One day she might well pole up infectious and be totally unaware. Her husband has cancer and heart problems and I have warned her that he is vulnerable and that she needs to take care too but it hasn't quite sunk in yet.calicocat said:
I am friendly with a couple of neighbours, one of which is a disabled couple who I worry about if she gets it, and will imagine my stores will be helping her out too. When she is ill I generally cook extra food for them so they don’t have to do that when under pressure. Note to self to suggest she gets plenty of cat food in as she has 5 of them to feed. She has carers going in every day, so possibly more vulnerable from that anyway regardless of her own disabilities. Her respiratory function is fine though. He works and drives, the problem will come is her carers get ill, but we will just have to work that out as it happens.greenbee said:@calicocat I have a toilet paper delivery due! Our village FB site has just started a discussion about how we can all help each other. Supporting the village shop would help - if everyone orders their shopping from it for a few weeks instead of going to the supermarket that'll keep it open for months!Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.12 -
I work in London too and although I am young and healthy I’m concerned about passing it onto more vulnerable relatives. As my journey to work involves a half hour train and a half hour tube each way I would easily count as being in close contact with another passenger who had it, but I don’t see how they would be able to trace strangers on a tube train so I could well have had contact without knowing it which is what worries me!Original mortgage free date: November 2044Current mortgage free date: November 2038Chipping away...10

I bought a Dettol spray disinfectant last year when my we were in one of those months where you get one bug after another, that might be a useful thing to have in although I'm not sure if it works on viruses, you just spray it on and leave it to dryunrecordings said:

Had Tesco delivery today - said I never wanted the driver inside kitchen from now on - they packed the order in bags and left on doorstep, and no need to sign - super service - easier than a normal delivery.Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,89411 -
I think everyone in your sons situation should be allowed to work from home if they are able to, employers do have a responsibility to their employees under the Health and Safety at Work act, hopefully we will get some clear guidance later today after the governments COBRA meetingdandy-candy said:Wednesday of last week my dental surgery shut as one of the dentists was confirmed with coronavirus, then yesterday i got a text from my doctors surgery saying they had shut too and would only deal with people via the phone. I'm worried about using public transport after some of the things I've seen people doing this week, I walk partway to work but to walk all the way there and back and do a 12 hour shift might be a bit much I think, luckily the bus I catch to go to work is very early so there's not usually many people on it,I might just walk home instead as that one is busierOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8949
