I have an ancient biochemistry degree, lipids are fats/oils (not 'like' them, they are them!) Cells are surrounded with what's called a 'lipid bilayer'. Basically because lipids have a positive charge at their 'head' end and a negative 'tail', they will tend to line up in a certain way and naturally form spheres. Soap is able to disrupt this bilayer and break open the virus particles. It's just as well, really, because soap is a cheap thing!

I have a 90 year old father with broncectasis, asthma and rheumatiod arthritis. He is in total denial. I took him food shopping this morning to stock up and he bought £12 of rubbish. I did my best to persuade him to buy more, even threatened him with that he will die alone if he catches it as I won't be able to be with him , but it has fallen on deaf ears. He may also infect others if he persists going out shopping every day and has the virus without knowing that he has it. I am in despair with him but I have tried everything I can to help him.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
DH just dropped DD off at the supermarket for her shift. He said the cars were queuing in the street trying to get into the carpark. I keep refreshing the BBC news website to see what comes out of this COBRA meeting...8

All this stuff about handwashing is fine. It's at least something we can do. But don't be lulled into a false sense of security. Remember it can also be inhaled. There is a reason folks at market stalls and cafes in some countries were required to keep a certain distance.

Just been to a local retail park to get cat litter and it was pretty quiet, you are usually searching for a parking space, but plenty there today.
Best laid plans.......today has been a disaster from the being organised part, Garage rang at 2pm and were going to charge a fortune for the work, so have wasted the morning then part of afternoon seeing to that for it not to be fixed anyway and will find somewhere else to do it. They had had the car from first thing this morning so they have irritated me.Of my list of jobs for today have only managed to get the cat litter, so will have to go out tomorrow unless I can muster up the energy to go out later. Oh I did order the washing machine, so that’s another think off the list.
I was with a male when out and about today, was talking to the bloke in curry’s about order, saying what I wanted, where to deliver to, wanting the plumb in and take away service etc........ bloke I was with had been completely silent whilst I was doing this....then bloke in shop suddenly turns and says to him is this to be in your name or hers. What the hell is that about for Christ sake, idiot.
I don’t think I should go out again today, with the car and curry’s bloke I am in a foul mood, and wondering if my covid-19 anxiety is making me furious about things when I shouldn’t be. I think I should leave it until tomorrow first thing before I get arrested for being a cow or end up having a bump due to not concentrating properly, I will be fine by tomorrow.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.11 -

I work an admin job in a hospital, I used to do direct patient care, my biggest concern at the moment is being asked to go back to delivering direct patient care. I want to help and I loved working with patients but I dont want to bring the virus home to my two young children. I felt quite unerved watching the news today. I worked in finance in 2008, it felt the same......12 -
Currently in hospital in a private room and awaiting a doctor, I'm so worried that it might be present here and we are being exposed trying to wash hands and sanatise as much as possible. We bought our own cup and 2ltr bottle of water with us. The only opportunity to fill prep gaps is Saturday lunch time and who knows what will be left, thats if the baby stays put a bit longer.12

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.9 -
