Have just done an Aldi top up and they had some uht milk so I got 6 litres but the use by date is July this year so it's going to have to be used not stored. I got a huge red and a huge green 'colelsaw' type cabbage because they keep for a very long time in the fridge and I got onions and some big clunky carrots which also keep well and will give us much needed fresh vitamins if we're using mainly tinned veg. I got some water, 16 litres of still and 8 litres of sparkling as standby, I got 2 x 240 packs Co Op tea bags and a big jar of Dowe Egberts instant coffee and 4 bags of plain flour along with some all purpose seasoning and some baking powder. I think we're OK for a few weeks should the worse happen and we either get ill or get a shut in situation in the area.11

I think it is challenging to know how prepared to be for various situations. We always have a couple of weeks worth of food for ourselves and our animals and a fully stocked medicine cabinet to cover the risk of being unwell or inclement weather. However I have never really given thought to being prepared for longer than 2-3 weeks.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!8

The people in Wuhan have had problems for longer than 2 - 3 weeks and there is no news of the shut downs being lifted or for how much longer they will be necessary. It's the same virus starting to travel through the world population and each country seems to have varying implementations to check it's progress so I work on the assumption that I may have to look after us for an unspecified period of time before things peak and the rate of transmission slows down and life shows signs of returning to a semblance of normality again. The WHO haven't yet declared it either an epidemic or a pandemic but from their online posts there is the impression that it COULD become either of these in the not too distant future. We all do these things from our own point of view and within our budget and the truth of the matter is that no one actually knows what is or isn't going to happen do they. I'm of the mind that it's better to be safer than sorry if it can possibly be achieved.12

I'm aiming for 6 weeks at a pinch in case they decide the incubation period is more than 14 days and quarantine people for longer. I see Matt Hancock has said that self isolation counts for sick pay but the people on zero hours contracts just won't get any hours so still no pay. I think a lot of people are going to suffer hardship even if they're not ill so when I'm stocking up, I'll do a food bank shop as wellIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!14

I rang my GP practise this afto and their phone system intro has nearly two minutes of corona-virus info. Short version being, if you think you may have it, do not go to a GP, hospital or pharmacy and call NHS direct for advice. If the advice is to self-quarantine, you're stuck with whatever you have on the premises.
I'm adding a few bits and bobs and will be getting some UHT milk tomorrow. Don't much care for it, but it will make tea a bit more pleasant if I can't get fresh.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'll admit to buying some dried milk today; I don't have much milk, but other family members do & I do use it in cooking. We still have ours delivered, on the grounds that although it costs more per pint, it costs less than running up to the supermarket, however disciplined I think I'm going to be! So I'm not overly worried about running out, but what if the milkman himself has to stay at home? I shall also pick up a couple of cartons of UHT to be on the safe side... a couple of pupils at a local school have now been told to stay in isolation.Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)10

I was glad to have plenty of stored water yesterday when a burst main down the road meant it was off when I got up, and not restored until evening. Buckets from the water butts to flush the loo. I half fill the kettle before bed as there is often trouble with the mains, and I like a brew first thing, having water stored indoors meant I could wash, and wash up, make pots of tea. The water company did send a van round mid afternoon with bottled water, which I accepted as you never know when spare bottles will be handy - most of my water indoors is stored in jerry cans, with six water butts outside.I13

We went to Morrissons this morning and I got a dozen tins of their apple slices, fabulous product and the tins are jam packed with apple and no juice or syrup, you get what it says on the tin and then keep a decent time too. I also got a 2kg pack of porridge oats and some odds of tinned veg to fill space in the cupboard and we can now officially not cram anything else in. We are there!11
