there has been loads on the news today about scotland, the border towns and the fields around that are flooded. Pontypridd and nantgarw seem to have borne a brunt today and some s wales areas have been evacuated. Goodness me, they cannot name every single area and fields don`t count when there are so many homes with water running through. Pity help the people who have lost everything

We are o.k. so far, just several trees down blocking local roads. We don't expect local problems to be reported by national media any more, making them pointless in an emergency. Local police advise 'Do not travel'.

A mention on the media doesn't change the situation in your home area does it? this series of storms has been abysmally disruptive and destructive right across the whole of the country, all areas are affected and all local news services will be covering their 'home patch'. We're flooded virtually all round the village, roads impassable but the only mention is on local radio and on the local news forum online. The media can't possibly cover every single thing and it always feels more immediate if it's in areas close to your own home and might threaten you directly. The rain seems to have stopped here but we've still got horrible gusty winds and the skylights are rattling and bouncing rather noisily, not over yet I think!12

This is a useful site, you can fill in your post code to see local problems.

As long as it is updated of course. Shows flooding but not trees down. Local newspapers are giving good service here.11 -
I've been out to replenish supplies and the local river is very high and there's a lot of surface water, but didn't see any acual flooding. On the other hand, the winds have been really strong and there are a few fences down. I'm in central Scotland.I've stocked up on things I wished I had more of when I couldn't go out, so I now have a variety of frozen fruit in the freezer, a lot of tinned tomatoes, both instant mash and tins of potatoes and biscuits for dunking in tea. It turned out I had ample supplies of expensive biscuits, chocolate and snacks, but what I really craved were plain, dunkable biscuits. I was in no danger of running out of tea.13

Nice to be out and about again? interested to hear how you coped Airthrey and could you share how you managed your meals so you didn't end up eating the same thing for days on end with us. I guess all of us having phones these days means you were able to stay in touch with the world that way but how much of a deprivation was not being able to have face to face interaction with people for you? until any of us have actually been in your situation we don't really know how it would affect us on a personal level do we?11
