pineapple, airthrey, thinking of you both.euronorris - thanks for that linkie, thats a good one. I carry hand gel at all times, and use it every time I touch something (including signing in to the council Healthy Walks scheme). When I use it, I slather it on the outside of it as well, if I've touched it with the offending finger
I do this all the time now, frankly, I don't fancy my chances if I catch something bad, I'm having enough problems as it is.

I've read that a lot of these anti viral/bacterial handgels are ineffective unless they contain minimum 60% alcohol. Supermarket supplies are down anyway, so I've ordered some with 70% - but it is also supposed to have ingredients which mitigate any damage from the alcohol. I'll report back.. Plus I have ordered disposable gloves - in black because I'll look less of a numpty than going around in some of the more lurid creations.13

Buy tattooist's glove, they are very invisible.

I think some of us are missing the point here, re virus transmission. You can get as many virus particles on your hands as you like, but they will only infect you if you touch your face, thereby allowing the virus to enter via the nose, mouth or eyes. So in a way, wearing a face mask is a much better idea, because it stops you unconsciously doing just that. Then when you get home, discard the mask and give your hands a darn good soapy wash in hot water (and probably a second good wash after unpacking everything). This for me would be the best strategy when out shopping. Gloves are a good idea, but again, you must not touch your face or else their purpose is defeated! If you are at work, however, then the problem is different as you likely wouldn't want to be wearing a mask all day. So then the disinfectant strategy is better. Of course none of this is sufficient if someone sneezes in close proximity to you!My neighbour's parents have 'self isolated' themselves after returning from a trip to Singapore. They have many elderly friends and don't want to risk passing the bug on if they do have it.Airthrey, I do hope your daughter and her partner will test negative.15

Let us all be roundly thankful we are not in North Korea,
As, by gum, they have a very strict line on those who break quaratine (although to be fair I think the chap failed to connect protection-from-illness with his entitled-to-do-as-he-wants rank)
Self isolation for 30 days, and apparently no reported cases but also no international trade help thanks to sanctions.13 -
I am continually grateful I do not live under that regime!

If things escalated very rapidly and we were required to stay inside out homes at very short notice for an unknown period of time , given your level of prepping now, today, how would you all fare? I've got the basics for weeks but the food would become less varied as time passed. I've made sure to always have a good stock of varied herbs and spices so that should this be the case I can vary flavours even if I can't vary ingredients in the dish.12

mutations are happening so it becomes a different virus. This means that someone who has had coronavirus could get it over again and that is one of the reasons why it is a very dangerous pathogen. It can mutate just going between different family members and each mutation is designed to make it a more dangerous virusJust to add that an anti back sanitiser has no effect whatsoever on viruses, Search out sanitisers containing alcohol10
