Now then, does this also become home to 'prepping for xmas' come Friday ? Just prepping for my prep prep talk prep...
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?1 -

In previous years I'd have popped the bantams into the end third of the run, which is 1cm weldmesh with a tarp roof, so can be "bio-secure" very easily, and blocked that end off from the large birds, but now there are 7 big girls, that would be somewhat crowded. (Still a lot more space than they'd have on most farms, though!)
I'd better resurrect the little polytunnel & check it over, just in case I do need to Take Precautions; the bantams were very comfortable in there last time, but OH was devastated by the damage to his lawn!
I googled that news earlier, an while I couldn't readily find the large farm potentially at the centre of the outbreak, I did find the little family run breeder in the same village which will likely close due to the outbreak - such a shame. One close to us had to shut up shop due to some outbreak a few years ago, but round here, apart from being a source of eggs, the line between pet & produce is maybe a little more blurred

Ditto! Ours even have names. But pet or produce, makes no difference to Defra...Angie - GC April 25: £491.86/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 21/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
So of course the Press are scaring folk it could turn on humans. Yet the facts are simple, there is an exclusion zone in place one whole mile wide, & most of the agencies are staying very calm at the minute.
Hoping all chooks stay healthy & happy!0 -
It's a sad world where the press feel the need to escalate the populations fear levels to make money isn't it?0

Nothing ever changes. Look at that parakeet story from a couple of days ago
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-50755015
Fairly certain I saw one in a local park last week, something lime green & pigeon sized in a tree by the river - I know there are some in Sheffield
Edited to add:
Saw an interview on C4 News last night on US politics, the crux being we need an existential threat (ie the cold war) to keep public cohesion. Unlike what'shappening in the US where there currently is no such threat (climate change notwithstanding)

I think it solidly ironic that the chap with the allotment will come to have much more time for it.
Although growing your own anti-arthritics (let's not start on HRT!) can be a bit tricky.0 -

Not feeling particularly xmas like today in fact positively Krampusy (Krampus also being our nickname for the cat). My lucky Spode finds on eBay have been pretty much negated by MyHermes who for two days have claimed to have tried to deliver without leaving a card, then claiming they can't find my address. Something fishy is happening.
In terms of prepping for xmas. Well the extra crockery isn't sorted, but we have the vegan roast, we have bread sauce, stuffing, we have a basic supply of veg to top up a little nearer the time, and we have Pringles even though I'd boycotted them due to the tubes being completely unrecyclable. Presents wise - best not to ask (none unless your name is Krampus), although Quality Street & Danish Butter Biscuits with a vegan option for the NHS is pretty much sorted. Anyone infecting the household with glitter will be marked for assassination. Anyway, fingers crossed I'll be in a better mood tomorrow.

I think you have just written the slogan on the next Festive Garment I am required to wear...
The management chain are politely nervous of me being trained as air rifle teacher anyway (all on my time & my dime for Scouts but they twig some skills are transferable) - add the word assassination & they'll flinch like nervous thoroughbreds!0 -
I just got my first delivery of Spode, two days late and reeking of what smells suspiciously like Navy Cut Cigarettes. The cat (aka Krampus for the next couple of weeks) took a keen interest, so we suspect the vendor is a mad cat lady with herd of unneutered ginger toms, which is why she's taken to smoking Navy Cut. One item needs to go back potentially, so normally we'd demp the packaging in the garage, but the lock broke a week ago didn't it. Still, at least no glitter though...
