Waze, eh? Aka Waze navigation and live traffic? Looks like my phone could download it, but I think I have to pay for it. Will consult teenage son taking driving lessons on which apps he’s met & what their owners reckon.

I asked gf about this yesterday, and she says she definitely doesn't have to pay for it. I have to say, she managed to find the place in Bristol a lot easier than me. :)

Someone in the energy forum found their storage heating mysteriously not working, and their smart meter has reverted to a standard tariff rather than Economy 7. One reply which made me chuckle (nervously) was this:

    Dear Miranda7,

You've used all your carbon allowance for this year, so your smart meter has cut your heating circuit off. But don't worry, your new allowance starts again in January.

How long before this is a real reply? :(

I think in all seriousness there'll be at least one major war before we get to that stage. And before that there'll be a second resources grab by the first world on Africa (for solar rather than mineral)

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Going to come back to you on this, got a good reply brewing, but it'll take me ages to type and I've got stuff to do - just think cold war era proxy wars (I also need to look up where the gulf stream is predicted to shift to...)

Thank you Un, and oh heck! Sound's not good just from the cold war reference.

Well a proxy war is better than a 'proper' one. It must be said though I think it'll take a decade or two before that could potentially pan out - in the meantime we have the status quo, and the continuation of the last cold war and its proxies (Syria for example).
I'm interested to see what comes out of this NATO meeting tomorrow

Un, could I pick your brains on how to judge a brandy? Been given a small bottle & have no idea if it's the dashed good stuff, the tolerable or the frankly leave for cleaning & firelighting...

DfV, personally I'd sample it & see whether it slips down smoothly, just leaving a nice warm mildly spicy & treacly feeling in your mouth & throat. I couldn't care less what aficionados think, I'm afraid; it's whether I like it that counts! Trouble is, the girls would then feel obliged to sample it as well, and we'd all be nursing wobbly heads the next morning...
