soda cystals is what I use, they work well and are quite cheap to buy0

Try taking the trap off underneath - put a bucket under as you undo the pipes - they are probably full of hair and soap scum. When done flush trough with BOILING hot water.0

If you have modern plastic plumbing with a trap you can unscrew, I'd just open it up and clean it out by hand. It's the cheapest and most effective way.
However, we live in an old house, and the bath trap is hidden inside the bath enclosure anyway. A strong soda crystal and boiling water mixture poured down and left overnight usually works, but for a really stuborn block I'd try caustic soda. It's not very nice stuff however, so you'll want plastic gloves and glasses.
There is also a cleaning product company called 'Easy' who make a good drain unblocking product in a big orange plastic bottle, which can be found in some 99p stores. I also saw it in Iceland recently.0 -
The last time my bath plughole was blocked, we took off the u-bend and emptied it out.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I've been a lurker on these boards for a while now trying to be a bit more oldstyle!
My bathroom sink gets blocked frequently and I normally end up buying the expensive Mr Muscle stuff to clear it.
Are there any old style ways of doing the same thing?

Hi musogirl,
Welcome to MSE. :hello:
This earlier thread may give you some ideas for unblocking the sink:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.
