Sink & Plughole Unblocker OS Style

Options
Does anyone have an idea what I can use to unblock our shower when it becomes clogged? At the moment I use the shop-bought stuff where you stick the whole bottle down and leave overnight, but I'd like to use something a little more OS.

Is it vinegar and bicarb that you can use?

if you mean the shower head, you can soak it in vinegar. Tie a sandwich bag filled with vinegar around the head, & leave it as long as possible.

Don't do this if you have a gold plated shower head (as if on MSE!!!)

If you mean the shower trap, pour a good two tablespoons of bicarb down it, pour a cup of vinegar onto this, wait til it foams, then flush with boiling water (from a kettle)

I use soda crystals for the shower drain. I tend to just sprinkle a handful or so down and then flush with hot water. Sorry - not very precise!
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle

the best thing is to get one of those hair catchers, they are only about 50p and stop it getting so bad in the first place. but vinegar and bicarb is a good way to clear it. if its clogged with hair some people spray some hair removing cream down to break it up!

    Hello
I was wondering if you have any tips on unblocking the bathroom sink - it is not completely blocked the water is just runing through slower than normal, I would usually use Mr Muscle sink unblocker but I thought there may be something out there that is much more economical and environmently sound that you may know of.
    Thanks Cathy

    Hi
Not sure how environmentally friendly this is, but our shower gets blocked a lot (3 lots of long hair being washed in it every day) and I use the hair removing cream. I bought a cheapo one from the pound shop (like Immac but their own brand) squirted the whole lot down the plug hole, left it for a while then put a kettle of hot water down and hey presto, a clear plug hole!

My bath was 'slow' so I put a mugful of bicarb down there followed by a cup of white vinegar. I put the plug in and left it for an hour. I then filled the bath with hot water - pulled out the plug and watched it rush away.
