The 1pMinute Mobile Calls is not actually true :-

The 0844 access number is at a Premium rate and of course this adds considerably to the TOTAL cost of any mobile call made.

This should have been more clearly pointed out.

This type of omission only challenges Martin's credibility.

It costs 1 penny a minute to use this from most landlines.

Don't bother calling 0844 numbers from a mobile though.

What is it you think should be pointed out?

MSE did not suggest you call mobiles from your mobile using the 0844 access number, if you bothered to read the post which is posted in the homephone forum (theirs a clue) your see that he talks about using it from a landline.

"While most phone companies charge up to 15p/min to call mobiles; the normal MoneySaving route lets you do it at 6p/min without changing phone provider. Yet from Mon to Fri this week (5 to 9 Nov), the aptly named 1pminute has a promotion for calls to any UK mobiles. Simply dial its access number, 0844 721 70 30, which is billed to your home phone at 1p/min, then dial the mobile you’re calling at no further charge."

Also, 0844 numbers are not charged at a premium rate from mobiles. :)

The OP seems to be out of his depth on this subject.;)
  • it did not work for me on Tuesday or Wednesday ..........I dialed 0844 721 70 30 and it wants an internatinal country code !!!......so i tried prefixing 0044.....then just 44 but it wont work.........it might work for calling china tho !

Hope it did not charge me 5p connection fee plus the 1p a min for something that did not connect 5 times I tried.......wont bother with them again.

I have to say that 0844 numbes ARE effectively a "premium rate" from a mobile since they aren't included in the bundle.

You have to put in the mobile number as an international number.

So 0789xxxxxxxx would go in as 0044789xxxxxxxxx

If you connected to the 0844 number 5 times, then you will have to pay 5 connection fees plus 1p a minute for each of the 5 calls.

And it doesn't matter where the (UK based) mobile phone is located - so it does work if the person you are calling is in China!

I'm with derektrophy on this one.

I tried to use it and it persistently asked for a country code, but never accepted whatever country code I entered, even dropping the first 0.

Aware that my billing clock was ticking from the moment of connection I abandoned it after several attempts.

If memory serves, last time I tried to use an offer like this I got the same result, a circular path to nowhere. Not sure if it was the same service provider or not tho'.

Could this be the latest line in phone scams? (pardon the pun)
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.

The only code that this special offer (0844 721 70 30) 1p/min number accepts is 0044.

Worked for me 20 mins ago!

If your too lazy to find out how to apply the UK international code to a UK mobile number, or like the OP too lazy to read how the service works, don't blame anyone but yourself.
