Hi,
Thinking of going back to Orlando at the end of August and fancied doing a dinner show...is the pirate one best? Would children age 2 and 6 be scared of the piratesor are there other shows more appropriate that people recommend?
Many thanks

We holidayed in Florida last year and focussed on the theme parks in Orlando plus Busch Gardens - had a great time. This year we are getting around Florida a bit more, itinerary as follows:
6 nights in St Pete's
6 nights in Naples
4 nights in Key West
4 nights in Orlando
We're looking for some ideas to keep a fifty-something couple and their 14 year old son happy, particularly when we're away from Orlando.
Everglades springs to mind and possibly Kennedy Space Centre.
In St Pete's area, try Dolphin Landings (great 2-hour dolphin-watch cruise on a sailboat), Clearwater Aquarium, Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, John's Pass Village ('pirate cruise' and eclectic shopping) and downtown St Petersburg (great shopping and dining, plus baseball with Tampa Rays). Plus the beaches, of course.
In Naples, this is a key entry for the Everglades, plus Naples itself has great beaches (especially for shells) and nearby Marco island is quite beautiful. Some real boutique shopping in Naples, too.
Key West - some great train/tram tours here that take you round the area, plus superb fishing and boat trips. Mel Fisher Maritime Museum and home of Ernest Hemingway. Great snorkelling, especialy at the brand new Vandenberg reef (an old navy missile-tracking ship that has just been sunk to create an artificial reef).Thinking of going back to Orlando at the end of August and fancied doing a dinner show...is the pirate one best? Pirates usually goes down well with boys in the 4-12 age range, but you could also consider Arabian Nights (especially with girls in the 3-12 range) and Medieval Times (again, great for boys). The food isn't great at any of them (although there's plenty of it) but the show is quite spectacular in each case.We have decided to also see the "Outta Control Dinner Show". From what I have read, we are probably better off buying the tickets beforehand so I was looking to order them.
themeparkticketsdirect have them for £14 and £10 which seems pretty good.
Anyone have any experience of this company?
We saw this quite recently and were impressed by the well-crafted nature of the magic show, and the amusing patter throughout of magician Tony Brent. The food is just a bowl of salad and pizza (as much as you can eat - either cheese or pepperoni), so nothing special, but kids seem to really enjoy the show and the up-close magic that Tony is very proficient at. Sit too close and you will end up IN the show (as I did). Good fun and good value, IMHO.
As regards buffet restaurants, the choice is basically Ponderosa, Sizzler, Golden Corral, Shoney's and Cici's (the latter of which is just pizza and salad, but all good quality). They can vary both by location and by quality from day to day (depending on how busy, and therefore untidy, they get). Don't expect anything fancy but they do usually deliver good vfm and as much as you can eat from a fairly varied spread. For better quality though (and now at a new location in Crossroads, Lake Buena Vista) is Sweet Tomatoes, an excellent salad, soup, pizza, pasta and dessert bar, always kept very clean, fresh (and healthy), with an amazing salad bar and good range of soups (up to 8 on some days) and fresh breads. It will cost a few $$s more than the others (about $8.50 for lunch and $10 for dinner) but it is hard to beat for good quality at this price, IMHO.0 -
Hi,
Apologies if this question has already been asked in the 'Orlando' sticky post, I couldn't find it amongst the 245 pages and 300+ posts that have the word 'ticket' in them!
I've just booked to go to Orlando this summer. It's been over 10 years since I last went and back then we found that buying tickets for the theme parks on the gate was the cheapest option. Since then people have started selling the tickets over here so you can buy them in advance, but I've got no idea what price the theme parks are selling them for on the gate any more.
So, anyone just back? Did you see what price entry to the parks was on the gate in comparison to the advance purchase tickets? We only want to go to a couple of the parks so I don't think we'd get the value for money out of one of the 'passport' style tickets. We're just trying to work out the best value for money! I presume it also depends on the exchange rate.
Thanks in anticipation for any advice!
SelBel
Hi SelBel,
Best way to do it is go to any Wal Mart where they have an Attractions Counter which sells discounted-from-gate-price tickets. Then when you get to the gate, eg. Wet'n Wild, Seaworld etc, quite often they have a "Pay once, re-visit as many times as you like in 2 weeks" (unbelievably these passes are the same price as a one day admission), so go to the Customer Services counter next to the entrance gate and exchange your ticket there for a multi day pass. We did this at several Parks and saved around 15% off the gate price too!0 -
Thanks! we have 30 and 50 spf

Going to Orlando at end of August this year and just wondered how much spends to take.
Have applied for a Fairfx card so will load most of my money onto this.
There are 5 of us (2 adults + 3 kids). We have paid for all "entertainment" so just need to know how much money to take for food and sundries (ice creams etc). Children are 12, 10 + 6. We are stating in a villa so will have to pay for all food. Will probably eat breakfast in the villa most days and take packup where we can do to the parks. Going for 13 days (inc one at Discovery Cove).
Also are the cash machines at the airport (MCO) easy to spot - was thinking of just drawing out money as soon as we got there or is this a bit "last minute" to get $ for tolls etc?0
