Orlando Florida/Disneyworld (Part 2) *CLOSED*

We are travelling to Florida in July - this is the first time we have booked everything ourselves.
Are flight is with United Airlines and we are flying from Heathrow to Washington and then on to Orlando. We land in Washington and then have an hour until the flight to Orlando. Is this enough time? What happens when we get to Washington - do the airline automatically move our bags as they are flying us to Orlando too? Also, what if there is a delay in the flight out and we miss the flight from Washington?
Hope someone can share their experience.0 -

Just a few weeks ago we did similar, flying with NorthWest (Delta) to Orlando via Detroit. Going out, despite what they said at Heathrow check-in, we had to collect our bags in Detroit. We then carried them literally around a corner and they were taken back off us again to be taken to the plane. Coming back, we checked the bags in at Orlando and didn't see or touch them again until Heathrow (the flight was again via Detroit). We had just under three hours in Detroit each way which I felt was about right, although we did have our 6 month old baby with us so it gave us time to feed him, change his nappy and let him have a stretch on the floor etc. To be honest, I think an hour would be pushing it. Don't worry though, if you've booked all the flights in one booking with United then they'll just bump you onto the next flight to Orlando if you miss your booked one - obviously be aware though that it could be the following day....0 -
Very odd that, I thought the same so I rang them back straight after and was told the same thing. WIthout for the want of belittling VA/VH, their overseas call centres are awful. The amount of staff I've spoken to that simply don't give a toss or have problems understanding what you're saying..
According to Virgin's website it is still operating. may be best to email them to confirm 100%

we are doing the same route but have over 2 hours in Washington - from what I have read and hour should see you through but I think you should check with united as they shouldn't permit you to book with a connection time that it's too tight - when we have done connecting flights we have had to pick up all our bags, go through customs etc and then back through, it takes time and if you have bought any liquids at duty free in the uk make sure you put them in your hold luggage as you can not take them through onto your next leg as carry on - we have also upgraded our flights to premier ecconomy as from the reviews the seating is not great - you can see how much it will cost you to upgrade on line for each leg of your journey, we found it cheaper to buy the annual upgrade which is $350 and that's for you and one other person travelling with you and this is for all flights for one year, for us it's worth it as I hate cramped seating - you can check all this on line at united0 -
Shakemeup I really do not think an hour is enough. Usually flights across the pond berth at a different place from internal flights and that can be quite a walk at some airports. You have to get off the plane.
You have immigration and customs to do, pick up luggage and return it.
Telling the Stews that you only have an hour, might help as they can usher you through, hopefully there will not be many non Americans on the aircraft so your line at Immigration should be small.
But an hour is very tight!!!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
I deliberately left almost 3 hours between our connecting flights to allow for customs, etc. The alternative was only an hour and I just didn't want to chance it although it would have been good to save the extra time.0

I would say an hour is fine.
Connecting through a US airport (mostly) is nothing like connecting through a UK airport.
US airports are generally well laid out, very well connected and easy to navigate.
It will be a case of getting off the plane, and going through Immigration - Usually by the time you get through Immigration your bag is waiting for you. Then literally its just matter of walking to your next gate.
Easy.
And, if you do miss your connection, United will have you on the next flight down to MCO.0 -
