hi all! im off to florida in november, the 1st 3 weeks, and was wondering what i should be wearing weather wise? I read its about 24 degrees normally, but is it coat weather on an evening? I also don't know how much money to take for food-me and a 5 year old, i think we get a kids eat free card in with the ticket, and were not really picky eaters- quite happy with diners, etc to eat in rather than restaurants. we're there for 17 nights.
And can I ask if any one has used a pre-paid travel card before, has any warnings?

Fags are cheaper on the Virgin plane rather than UK airports and US Airports . No question . 400 B&H on plane £27

My boss always re-tells this. Many years ago he remembers sending his trainee out to the local shops to get him 20 B&H. He said if they aint got them then get me anything.

He came back with a pork pie

I still laugh at this all the time

  • I went to Florida last year, to do the full Orlando Theme park experience. We stayed one night in Canaveral to go to the kennedy Space Centre and I wish I had booked longer. The Hotel was a fraction of the cost of a disney hotel and we had a higher grade room. Its worth looking at maybe mixing a holiday more nights at canaveral than orlando you will save a lot.
The drive from Canaveral takes about an hour ..........lets be honest you would drive over an hour to Alton Towers so surely an hour to Disney is a no brainer
  • If you are putting together a holiday to Orlando. Have you thought about a Cruise????
If you think how much a day costs in Orlando Food , Hotel, Entertainment etc you are soon getting into big dollars

However we booked a 5 day cruise in the bahamas for £500 for 3 !!!! Food accomodation and 2 days in the bahamas for less than £40 quid a day!!!

The big cost of these cruises is the flight from the UK, well if you are buying that anyway for your Orlando trip, then add a Cruise for peanuts

an excellent idea and if you manage to get a Disney Cruise the experience is unbelievable!!!

If you are top end of Dport its OK. Take a look at https://www.lastminutevillas.net I think and there are some good ones there. Also try Google.

As for areas, where was your last one?

    Cheers

Thanks, will take a look at that site now ;). We have stayed at Windsor Hills the last 2 years and it was perfect for us, very close and a gated community. Our villa has been cancelled (long story) and we have 3 weeks to sort out another one before we leave. Prices are so much higher than last year and funds are tight. Fingers crossed...

    Hi there,

Not sure if you got a reply from anyone but I have been in Nov lots of times and it is lovely weather. Nice and warm during the day but not so hot that you're avoiding going outside and being paranoid about the kids getting burned. In the evenings it can be coolish so defo take a light jacket (defo no need for a winter style coat though). Last time we were there (end Nov into Dec) you could still go out in your shorts in the eve without freezing to death although a pair of longer trousers was probably is bit better!

PS We're going with our 3 kids in Oct hols and I can't wait :j

A few things to try here.

YOu get use a town car service. Sometimes around the same price as a taxi but a much nicer ride and service. Chap meets you ar baggage claim with a car and takes your luggage and you to whereever and same chap brings you back again. There are a few around but one I have used for many many years is Tiffany Town cars
    Cheers

Hi, we have just got back and we used this company. Not impressed I'm afraid craig
The car that picked us up was beautiful and the driver lovely.
However, he asked me to include his tip onto the invoice and took 41% which I thought was a bit steep but thought it must be for the return journey as well, but when the guy came to pick us up for the return journey it was a different guy and he was in a 'not so nice' people carrier/mini bus so I had to tip him again
It ended up costing me $155 dollars for a trip that took 15 or 20 mins each way.
My husband had to come out 3 days later ( due to virgin not allowing my daughter to fly due to a passport error) and he caught a mears taxi from the airport and it cost $45 for a one way trip.
I know which one I'd choose next time.

were off to florida on 6th june, just wondered if anyone had any ideas on keeping a 4 & 2 year old occupied on the flight, my little lad has a ds he's taking with him but he'll get fed up with this after a while. Also may be a totally silly question but can you take your own sandwiches etc on the flight my kids are fussy eaters and probably won't touch the inflight meal.

    Thanks
Hi Clare, I was in exactly your position the year before last (plus I was 6 months pregnant!). They slept some of the time which is great and to if you take a few toys and games/books (and snacks) and play with them they will be chuffed to bits. They have your full attention as there is nothing else to do but sit and play with them. I was worried as well but it was unfounded and turned out to be real quality time with them. We had some people next to us who were having a nightmare with their little boy but it was because they were just sitting there not playing with him just reading their own books etc, they just kept on shouting at him and ignoring him the rest of the time. Poor little guy, I felt sorry for him.
You should be totally fine taking some sarnies and other snacks with you. Noone looked twice at us for doing it and it's better than than having grouchy kids because they are hungry and won't eat what they're given. Like other people said you will have to leave any uneaten fruit, sandwiches etc on the plane but no great problem there.
