    Hi people!
Just found this thread, me and a friend have quite spontaneously decided we're going to go to orlando for 10 days towards the end of june as we've both got 2 weeks off work. Neither of us have been to america before so this is going to be quite an adventure! We're not too bothered about the whole disney thing but realise its a sort of essential thing so will go if we feel like it but won't be booking a week long ticket or anything. The main things we really want to do are universal studios and kennedy space centre.

Few questions I have, firstly any tips for our trip? We really have no clue what it's going to be like. Where and what are the best tickets to get for universal and kennedy space and any tips for getting the best value from the visits to them? Anything else we really cant miss while were there?

We have been looking around and found a trip with thomson for 10 nights from 22nd June which seems to look good, the packages include the flights and car hire and a choice of hotels, we have narrowed it to 5 which are: Wyndham Orlando Resort, Holiday Inn International, Econo Lodge Inn & Suites, Quality Inn Plaza, Rosen Centre Hotel which are all on the International Drive. Has anyone stayed at any of these that could recommend one in particular? We are struggling to chose! We also notice that none of them include any meals so can anyone recommend any good value places we can eat?

Appreciate any help/advice anyone can give :) Many thanks

Look on trip advisor for ratings for these hotels. Also from the reviews some of them charge for on site parking per day, as this may start to add up over the 10 days.

    LOL

The Yanks blow everything out of proportion. I am not saying that Swine Flu should be mocked BUT they way the yanks speak you would think its all over for everyone.

In fact, I have just spoken to my folks who are still over there and they sain in Central Florida they have sold out of face masks! Give me strength. Just stay away from Piglet and you will be fine!

    Have a great time

    Craig,
Daft question I know but can you take your own tea bags if they are packed in your suitcase as opposed to hand luggage. Its just that I like a nice cup of rosy first thing in the morning and I have heard that tea in the US is a poor relation.
    Thanks once again in advance.
    Cheers,

I'm not Craig, but I can answer your question.

It's fine to take tea bags in your suitcase.
  • Hi there :)

A friend and I have booked to go to Orlando in the last week of July, we'll be there 7 full days (we arrive on the Sunday, leave on the following Monday) and so far have flights & hotel booked, with plans to pick up the FlexTicket Plus. I've just got a couple of questions, if you could help out that would be great!

We're hoping to go to Universal Studios, Island of Adventures, Busch Gardens, Seaworld, Aquatica and Kennedy Space Centre. Does anyone have any experience on how long you might expect to spend at these parks? Would it be possible to go to some in the same day (i.e Universal in one day, Seaworld & Aquatica in one day)? Obviously being there at the time we are the lines are going to be against us, but any rough idea would be great.

We'll be staying in a hotel on I-drive (0.2miles from the Convention Centre), does anyone know if it's possible to get the trolley from Orlando International, or would shuttle services be a better idea? Where are the best places for getting relatively cheap food (particularly breakfasts & dinners, to try & avoid the pricey park food!)?

    Thanks!

I found the best place to answer all our questions about Florida was
    www.thedibb.co.uk

From what I have read the Parks seem far apart so we won't be attempting 2 in one day, though we are there 14 days.

A question about rides at Universal (and the other parks on the Flexticket Plus). Are most of the seating arrangements on the rides in 2's or 4's?

We went to Blackpool last year and a lot of them were in 2's, which meant lots of moaning about 'I want to sit with mum this time', and even insisting they took turns still didn't stop them squabbling

Most of the rides are in rows of 4 so you won't have a problem. Have a fantastic time.

    Hi Curliihead,

You can' get the I-ride from OIA but you can get the lynx bus service 42 from the airport to the International Drive area, fares are $2 for adults and $1 for kids (not sure on cut-off points of ages).

As for the parks, both Universal parks are next to each other and you access both parks via the citywalk where you get the shuttle/bus or car park from. Also, Aquatica is just across the road from seaworld and you can get to either of these via the I-ride trolley, $1.25 for adults, free for under 12's. If you go to seaworld they also offer a free shuttle to Aquatica.
