you would do well to read this thread from the start as all of your questions have been answered at one point or another.
pick up a few brochures at the travel agents and get an idea of what you would like to do, there is so much you couldn't do it in a month so you need to pick the 'most wanted' before you commit to anything.
i would book everything seperately to save money as well as having a bit more flexibility.
at that time of year, be prepared for long queues at all the theme parks.
  • We usually fly First Choice to Sandford and much prefer it, Sandford compared to Orlando is like Stanstead to Heathrow. We got through customs a lot quicker though must admit there was quite a wait for the hire car.

i flew with first choice to sanford a few weeks ago, the flights where ok but you are limited to 20kg on your hold luggage, not good if you plan do do some shopping and they charge £7.50 per kilo if your over (discretionary).
try alamo for car hire, plenty of people on the desks and no queues when i have been there, i suppose most peeps will book with their travel company and get dollar or budget.
  • When we went we booked everything over the net separately,

To start we flew from Manchester via New York with Continental Airlines in October 2004, 2 adults and 2 kids, excellent service and price ( www.cheapestflights.co.uk ). However it can be a long day clearing customs and changing planes.

The car was booked through www.floridacarhire.com, which gave us a 7 seat minivan for around £300.

We got the villa by deciding what we needed e.g. location to Disney / Universal, no. of rooms, pool etc. We just googled one !!

Got the park tickets from www.attraction-tickets-direct.co.uk

It is a fantastic place to visit, we waited till the kids were old enough to properly enjoy it and tall enough to get on the best rides at the parks. We have since been again but Manchester - Sanford that time, a shorter day flying direct.

Hope this helps, will post more if it comes back to me

  • Thanks for the replies so far, the biggest sticking point i can see is the prices to get there are hardly any difference to going to Majorca but it's park tickets that pump the price up. Me and the kids want to go, just need to talk the missus round! lol

Scouse337 - when I first whet to Orlando in 2004 I went with friends who were old hands & they told me that after going I wouldnt be bothered about a beach holiday again - I didnt believe them but they were so right. We love Majorca but if its a choice - Florida wins everytime. In a ideal world I would do both each year (obviously I am completely dreaming). Hope you can persuade your wife.
  • myself and family (2 adults, 3 kids-15, 8 & 6) are going to Orlando in August for 3 weeks and would love any tips for going at that time of year. Ive been before but in January and the weather was awful, -7 windchill as soon as we stepped off the plane and didn't get much better the whole 2 weeks we were there!!!

have a look and post this in the orlando sticky at the top of this thread, you will find a wealth of information in there.
  • Hi All,

I'm sure the advice I need will be contained somewhere within the 20-odd pages of this thread, but in the absence of time to look through I would be grateful for any views. Will be visiting Orlando for the last 2 weeks in March, and needing to buy 7 adult tickets for our party for each of the attractions we visit. I have checked some of the recommended websites for prices, which all seem to be pretty similar, but my main query is this - On our 2 previous visits we have purchased all our tickets locally on arrival, usually from the travel centre in Walmart, and found this much cheaper than buying tickets at the gate etc. Would I be right in thinking that with the weak Dollar it would be better value to purchase tickets locally in Dollars than in advance paying in pounds? Has anyone done it this way recently, have heard a couple of stories through friends of people who bought tickets in advance which then appeared to be cheaper locally.
Also, as we will be there over Easter we will be giving the parks a miss over that weekend, can anyone suggest any other local activities etc to try out?
    Thanks.
