I do not know if they have changed the Visa situation but you needed one if you have any criminal record. It costs over a £100 and it has to be done at the US embassy and it takes all day it is not a very nice experience at all. For most the Visa waiver form is enough.

Thanks, really appreciate your honesty. I think I'll skip the car and with the cash we save that will probably pay for a set of disney tickets or something similar! I'll be fine with the shuttles as they seem very frequent so should be fine!

The shuttles are fine along with the trolley buses and i-ride.

Its just the extra convience of having a car ( petrol ultra cheap )

Remember theres more to Florida than just doing the disney parks.

So i always rent a car and explore

Cheers Darren. Were going to be doing about 10 parks in the 2 weeks so may skip the car BUT will probably hire a car the next time we go to explore orlando and not just the parks!

No one in their right mind would go to Florida without a car if they can drive.

I don't know about that. Staying in Disney you rarely use your car apart from the odd foray to restaurants, shopping and other parks. It is easier to drive but then it is cheaper and relatively efficient to use public transport. Anyone staying on I-drive certainly doesn't particularly need a car as their are buses constantly taking you everywhere for pennies. I think if you stay in a Villa then yes a car is essential. However, if your not it is more of a luxury than a necessity.

Thats strange as I can drive but ive been told there are numerous transfers/shuttle busses to take you to malls and theme parks so why exactly would you need a car other than to dictate yourself what times you come and go?

If all you are planning to do is the Universal/Disney thing then you are right. However for me its because I want to come and go as I please, I want to go to other places like Cape Canaveral and in the evenings choose where I want to eat which may not be on a bus route :)

Need a little advice please, have booked a hol to Orlando this year and paid about £560 each inc. transfers. The woman on phone said it wouldn't be worth putting pen to paper for any less...
Well I went onto the Thomson website today to find the exact holiday for £488 each (need to add on £32 each for transfers) which still works out cheaper!
I have only paid £50 each deposit, and booked it through Thomson on the phone.
Shall I ask them if I can get a cheaper price now? Little annoyed as that saving could pay for a meal out or a park ticket for one of us!
    Any help gratefully recieved
    TIA

PS thaks to all of the posters on the thread, they have helped me plan a lot already!

Just returned from 10 day stay and had an excellent time.

We booked Flexi-plus tickets from CHARTER TRAVEL for £155 each, got a voucher in post and exchanged at info desk in Downton Universal all very simple.

Stayed at Quality Inn Plaza on I-Drive and room was great & good price.

Parking at the theme parks was $12 per day & got car from Thrifty.

Flew return with DELTA and service was excellent on all flights.

All booked individually and no problems at all.
