Does anybody know if there any additional ‘hidden’ insurance costs to pay when collecting a car that has been booked online over in Orlando?? I only require a small economical car, such as a small Chevrolet or something and have been quoted about £235 for 2-weeks car hire in November via the car hire section at alpharooms.com. But will this be the TOTAL price I have to pay or will I get stung for more cash when I collect the car?? Any ideas?
There shouldn't be extra charges from any car company but check that your have decent insurance included. The advance insurance package is something they may try and sell you but that is usually just a tank of petrol and any driver. It is likely they will be a broker for Alamo or Dollar it will be they that you pick up the car from. They will try and sell you upgrades and extras but stick to your guns and you should be fine.0 -

All i can add to this is read evrything and every cost on all the documents you sign over there. I received extras on a bill after upgrade which i wasn't happy about but i had read it properly i would have queried it right away.0 -
Thanks for the car tips guys. Part of me is saying to hell with the car, as for the first week im staying on international drive and theres plenty of transfers to all the theme parks, right!?!?
And the second week im staying at lake buena vista, where again has transfers a-plenty. I would save myself quite a lot of money doing this I guess! Has anybody else done this frequently, and have you had any trouble with NOT hiring a car?0 -
Quick question about car parking. I'm sure I read that you have to pay for parking at Universal, so I presume it's the same for Seaworld/Busch Gardens etc. Can you buy a weekly parking permit, or do you have to pay everyday?
And if you have to pay everyday can you leave and use the same ticket later in the day?Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -

Pay daily, and yes you can leave all of the parks and return just keep the ticket they give you and leave it on the dashboard.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

It is easy enough to use all the transfers, the IRide etc and do everything you want without a car too but to be honest i wouldn't do it without a car due to the freedom to come and go as you please, driving is very easy in the states compared to the uk but each to their own. You will have a ball regardless of what you do.0 -

My hubby and his mate wanted to do that when we were there in 2006 but couldn't get it so did the one at Disney instead (Richard Petty Driving Experience) - they had a right good time!I do believe they are planning to do it again when we go back this year.
Last time, the rest of us went to Seaworld (my friend drove there, I drove back - 7 of us in a big ol' 4x4 - I was scared at first having never driven in a foreign country but it was cool! Did the interstate and everything LOL! I don't want to start the car/no car argument up again so no comments please). We are getting two 4x4 gas guzzlers again this year but I think we'll take advantage of the pool at our villa this time.

we have just come back, we had no car, used hotel shuttles to the parks, there was a choice of 3 times am for getting there and choice of 3 different times for getting back so always found something to suit and saved $12 per day parking at the theme parks. used the i-ride trolley buses to get up and down international drive, shopping outlets at each end, trolley bus was $17 dollars for 14 day use for adults, children 12 and under free, use as much as you like, buy trolley bus tickets from hotel.0

I bought our flexticket+ from Virgin Holidays website last Wednesday (18th). We have not booked anything else with them & I have today received an email from them telling me that you can only purchase park tickets from them if you have booked a holiday through them.
They have taken my deposit payment & I am just waiting for the invoice before I pay the rest. Does anybody know whether they can change their minds & refund the payment or am I likely to have just scraped in?
Thanks
Mike
I received my invoice through the post this morning, since I booked after you, you should be okay.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0 -
