Anyone been to Orlando and gone to the Everglades - either driving down, or as part of an excursion - the tours I have found all seem to include alligator or snake handling shows - butt hat's not what we're after.
DH just wants to see a bit of the Everglades, and have a ride on an airboat (like the wee boy had in Gentle Ben!!:o )
Anyone got any suggestions?
You can go on an airboat in orlando area were the everglades and swamps do stretch up that far were there are crocs, i went to south port for an airboat ride, highly recomend it,, Boggycreek

Hi - I'm off to Port Orleans FQ on 9/8/09 for 16 nights - great deal with free DDP and tickets included - yeah!!!! :j
I am now planning ahead and thinking about DDP reservations and know I will have to book promptly 90 days ahead. BUT.... I cant find a busy day guide that far ahead - Can anyone point me in the right direction?
We really want to go to the parks on 'light' days.
Thanks in advance0 -
Hello
This is my first post so I hope its in the right place. i am taking my son who is 11 to Orlando on 29th March. I am trying to work out what kind of budget we will need for each day our flights, tickets and hotel are all paid for? I am not using a car while there but hoping that public transport on I.Drive will be ok to enable us to get to all the parks.
All help appreciated I have already ordered a guide book and found other useful tips on this forum so thanks in advance!
You don't say how long you're going for or what type of accomodation you're in, but when we go, we eat breakfast either at hotel or somewhere like Sizzler/Ponderosa/Golden Corral, snack through the day (drinks and snacks bought at supermarket) and eat an evening meal (outside the park). Portions are big and we can often share - look out for coupon books giving 'children eat free' or 'Two for 0ne' deals - some include children up to 12, others only to age ten (but we were never asked how old our daughter was!).
I allow $50 per person per day for this (no alcohol).
Then we take extra for shopping/souvenirs (according to what we can afford at the time!).
You'll have a fab time - wish we were going again this year!2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Hi where about in BV are you staying? To be honest sturll or whatever his name is, is too opinionated. I've been to orlando now on 6 seperate occassions and this may/june will be no different. You do not need a car!
If you want to drive, then you can but don't consider it a necessity. In fact depending on what your doing it maye end up an extra expense that you didn't need.
Darren
Too opinionated? Its a public forum you moron.
No one has said you NEED a car in fact if you bother to read back i said you could have an amazing holiday without one. I just believe and it seems most others who drive do too that the holiday would be easier and potentially better with a car.
To advise someone that it could be an expense they don't need tells me you don't drive.
(Is that too opinionated enough or should i water it down to your level to read something along the lines of "what he said")0 -

Now your being insulting. Reading back you are giving you opinion very strongly. Thats what "opinionated" means. Rightly or wrongly it came over as being a sin to not have a car and something that would certainly be regretted. I liked the comment of being on a bus in the searing heat and waiting for a buses from BV to disney of an hour. You've obviously never caught a lynx in Orlando, never mind a shuttle from a hotel.
Whether your better with a car or without one depends on what your doing. If your visiting parks etc and have transport laid on, why pay for insurance, fuel and $10 parking (at Disney) when the other option is free and take almost the same amount of time.
I don't need a car and never have when in Orlando. When working on site in Portland, I needed one. Its horses for courses.
BTW I drive to work and back every day. I work 60 miles from my home and so your talking rubbish, but then again what did I expect.0 -

Sturll gives advice and his opinion based on being a regular traveller to Florida. I'm sure this advice is very helpful to a lot of MSE'ers.
It is his opinion, and just because you happen to disagree with it, that doesn't make him wrong! :rolleyes:0 -

When i last went to Orlando (last month) i took along my mother, she decided Kennedy Space centre wasn't her thing so could i drop her at Animal Kingdom. I tried - believe me, in fact i had to drop her off at Downtown Disney, where she had to get a bus to a Disney Hotel, then change, then continue on to Animal Kingdom. In the cool 25 degree heat and with the parks being at one of the quietest times of the year she said it "did her head in" and took about an hour with the hassle of getting on and off the bus and finding out where to be next. In comparison it took me an hour to get to KSC which is some 60 miles away in the time she travelled 10 on a bus. I didn't get out my vehicle, didn't have to carry everything for the day with me and was relaxed when i arrived at KSC.
I just wonder how long on the bus it would take you to get to Clearwater/Everglades/Naples/KSC/Bush/Miami????
(Bet id be there before you)
Every morning i got up from my nice Villa and mooched away to Disney - arriving relaxed and ready to go.
And fwiw its $12 to park at Disney - not $10.
Its a no brainer really.

No of course not. There opinions just like mine. That's what this forum is about. Its important to have people saying different things based on their experiences. I gave mine and wanted to check the direction the comments had gone in as my experiences were different and my comments were thanked by at least one other person.
When someone says that they'd better take their licence just in case, it suggests that this less frequent visitor is afraid of what they may find and I wanted to set the record straight here. That person needs to know that their holiday isn't going to be ruined by lack of a car. having been to the USA something like 12 or 13 times in total in the last 10 years has given me a good insight.
It kind of depends what they are planning to do.

Can we agree to disagree, and decide for ourselves whether to have a car or not - if we keep quoting/disagreeing with other people, then there's a risk the thread will end up getting closed - I've seen it happen on other threads.
I think this topic is invaluable for our first trip to Orlando, so can we give each other a break, please?

Ok. Its now $12. Why didn't you just drive straight into the AK parking lot and drop your mum there? She could have jumped on the train and been at the gate. It might have cost you $12 but I bet it would have been worth it in hindsight.
The point is that your in a villa and no public transport is any use where you stayed. A hotel guest would probably have a different view as most can get good transport to most places. When going to different places, like St Petes etc I have a car but as a frequent visitor I don't have a car when going places that don't need one like being in LBV and visiting disney. Its an extra expense that I dont need. I spend 3 weeks visting parks one holiday and driving for another.
