Hi all, AREA ADVICE NEEDED PLEASE!!

Hoping one of you Florida frequent flyers can offer some advice please??

Looking to go to Florida Sep 09. Would like to stay in an area that has the following:

*Large house with private pool (to sleep 8-10)
*about 1.5 hours from Disney and quite near (30mins)to a beach suitable for snorkelling (ie gulf coast)
*Would prefer to stay in an area with decent nightlife/bars within walking distance and near an IHOP (addicted to pancakes)
*DH has also asked for a cheesecake factory to be in the vicinity.

Does such a place exist? Or is that Heaven...

For 2 adults (maybe 4) and 2 little kids.

Thanks peeps. Appreciate any ideas with areas/resorts. Don't want to stay in a hotel, as need loads of indoor crawling space for the kiddlywinks.

    SFG x

Assuming u can, we cant with ours, you have to get permission from the school head, who will only give it if one of the parents can prove that the only time they get off work is during some term time.

I see, at my sons school the head is practically obliged to authorise up to 10 days per year.

However a family friend was fined £120 for taking her child out of school unauthorised. She was elated, she had saved over £2000 on their holiday and including the fine she had still saved a huge amount of money.

i think its about time that schools realise that no job gives you 13 weeks a year the same time as school. when i go in a few weeks time i will not be asking - i will be telling them my daughter will be off. not expecting anything back but think they would have cheek the amount of inservice days they have and i have to organise round that! i do try to get near the school holidays but wont pay over the odds for the privelege. give and take i say!
  • Off to Florida in October, usual thing, Disney Parks, Universal etc. But wanted to go to the beach for a few days. Friends have said we must try Clearwater. So, with that in mind, can anyone recommend a hotel in Clearwater? Probably go there on a Saturday morning, stay Saturday night, spend the day there on Sunday and head back Sunday night. Not too worried about cost as it will only be for one night. Thanks, Paul.

    Hi Paul

We are off to Clearwater tomorrow from here in Clermont for a couple of days. Two hotels that are really good.

One is the Hilton on the Beach, has great beach access - its ON the beach and they have beach towels and sand castles buckets etc. Also free parking all day. Other is the Marriott at Sand Key again just on the beach, a much posher hotel IMHO but both are great. We did Hilton last year and Marriott this year. They are around 150 bucks a night for a two double bed room. What I like about the Marriott is for ten bucks more you can get a two room suite so pop the kids off the bed and you can go into the other room etc.

Also if you are a member of the AA you can put AAA as a code (note three A;s) on the Marriott website and get a better rate. Also try IBM as a code. I have used that before and never been asked for any ID :)

It really is the nicer coast in my opinion.

We buckled! Saw the dirt cheap Virgin prices yesterday - and bought a holiday!

We're off on the 15th for 12 days next January - for the two of us, we've got flights and hotel for under £900! Which is natty. We're only staying in the Metropolitan Express on I-Drive but we loved it last time, so we know what we're getting - and after discounts and quidco, it was cheap.

Now, we're planning the following itinerary -

    16 - Wet 'n' Wild
    17 - Universal Studios
    18 - Universal IoA
    19 - Down day
    20 - Seaworld
    21 - Aquatica
    22 - Down day
23 - Busch gardens (is there a free bus from anywhere?)
    24 - Malls etc
    25 - Disney
    26 - Disney

We don't really need more than two days for Disney - we're only going for a few of the rides (been before, was not keen on Disney at all) - is there a good ticket for a shorter stay?

    Cheers!

you can get a ticket that combines seaworld, aquatica and busch gardens all in one, and is much cheaper than buying tickets seperately for each park, and you have unlimited entrance to each park for 14 days, there is a shuttle bus to busch gardens, but i cant remember where you can get it from, i am pretty sure it does pick up from I-Drive, i think it is free, if not it wont cost much, on aquatica i didpost before that whilst we was at seaworld, i heard staff telling other guests that there was a rumour that aquatica was going to be turned into a seasonal park, and may close over the winter, again it is only a rumour, but it came from staff at seaworld, who i believe own aquatica, maybe something to bear in mind, HTH Dave
Take every day as it comes!!

I have two children. One who is in school.

I see no problem in timing the family holiday so that a few days of school are missed.

I quite agree, but if you work in a school (and I'm not a teacher, just low-paid support staff) you're not allowed even one day off outside the school holidays.
