We've been twice in april/may and both times the weather was perfect, sunny, warm, dry and most importantly not humid at all.
Been in september a couple of times and most days you get a welcome heavy but short downpour its get's very humid and sticky, however were going again this september so it cant be that bad :D

Can anyone recommend a car hire company. We have booked transfers to the hotel (don't fancy driving straight off flight!) we need a 7 seater and are staying in Lake Buena Vista. Have searched and it just seems a minefield of companies, so would be grateful for any help.
    Thanks

My advice is do not book directly with any company. Use a broker such as yescarhire.com or airlinenetwork.co.uk These offer both Alamo and Dollar and also multplr locations for collection and return. They also include ALL taxes and insurances.

Be aware there has been a trend of late for Dollar especially to try and sell you roadside recovery. YOU DO NOT NEED THIS as a car hire company is legally required to recover you if you break down. Just a way for them to get more money.

So use a broker. They all give free quotes too. OS compare a few.

    Cheers

hurricane season is June to Novemeber I think though I have been for the last 2 years in October and then September and going Oct-Nov this year and I have been lucky with regards to hurricanes. There were some tornadoes last year in northern florida but not as far south as orlando. You do get almost dailr thunderstorms at that time of year though.

I've never been over the summer, but my cousin who lives in Orlando tells me that June and July are usually the hottest months, theres not really a "bad" time to go to florida as the climate is almost always better than the UK!!

May might be your best bet though, but remember to try and avoid the american holidays too as prices rise and the parks get VERY VERY busy in the american school holidays.

We live in Orlando three times a year :) and my folks six months. The weather like everywhere else is changeable.

Some things to bear in mind though are:-

May - UK half term so quite expensive. Also toward the end of the month the weather really improves. Mind you is never bad but this year we found the begining of May a little wetter.

June is a great month for weather. However the US schools are out for their 104 days of summer vacation so it can get busy. I like June though.,

September is awesome. Weather is great, UK not there at all and US kids back to school. Thats my pick.

    Have fun

Tried this site and can only get flights from 23rd at 529.00 pp. we wanted to go on the 25th as kids are off for half term

Yep, this is the problem we all have with airlines not being dishonest just using supply and demand!!! If you ever truy and got to Florida during the school holidays you are v likely to get stung. The only way aroudn this I have found is to travel midweek and to take your kids out of school for a week either side of half term so you have a few dates.

Legally you can remove your kids from school for two weeks a year with the schools permission. We take them for a week in may (and then add half term on ) and do the same in October.

    Seems a little steep.

You will probably pay anywhere between £2500-£3000 for flights but you may be able to get them for cheaper though if you are going over the easter holidays its unlikely.

Al the holidays tend to be very busy in Florida as you get brits and american families all at the same time so the prices are always higher. I have just checked out my holiday villa (through the management company) and they aren't showing aprils pricing but based on Octobers pricing you would pay a daily average of $189 or $169 depending on how many bedrooms so around £1300 for that part. Car hire shouldn't cost more than £400-£500 (I've not hired a car bigger than economy before but I've effectively doubled the cost) so I would guess if booked seperately you should be able to get at least £1000 of the cost you have quoted.

I'm looking myself for the end of May. Probably a stupid question but have you looked on Expedia. I've just been in and chosen 4th - 18th April, from London and it's given me a total cost of £4,002 for flights and hotel. Plus there's 3.5% if you go through Quidco too. Admittedly, have just noticed that the flights aren't direct, which might be a pain with your kids, but this seems a lot cheaper than your £5,500. I know this doesn't include car hire but various people on this thread have also given info about cheap car hire too. HTH

I will have another look although i have checked.

I am trying to keep the cost down as much as possible becuase this be their first trip abroad and with it being disney the "can i have's and I want's" will be at maximum!

    Thanks
  • Hi There,

We are holidaying in Orlando later this year, and would like to spend some time around the Clearwater / St.Peterburh / Sarasota area.

My question is can anyone recommend any attractions / things to do around that area. We have two boys aged 12 and 14. Also any hotels / motels for a possible stopover would be great.

    Thanks in advance
