If someone coming the other way is on my side of the road, do I have to move over?

I'm sure you're right, but at the time it felt a bit hairy. I personally wouldn't have overtaken the lorry at that moment (there was no-one behind me, so the driver could've waited 5 seconds and used the whole of the road). I prefer to be safe than sorry.Aylesbury_Duck wrote: »I think you may be too quick to judge. Deastons is pro-road safety and is a regular poster. I'm sure s/he will post the footage in due course.
And thanks for your support. Nice to think not everyone on here assumes I'm a liar.0 -
Just stay where you are. It will be fine.0

That's because I made them up. It's all a lie.
This image is not from a couple of seconds earlier as I passed them. So don't even bother looking at it.

I hate to tell you but the grass verge isn't the carriageway.
It seems you're economical with the truth.0 -

You weren't too safe when you reversed into that hole, more sorry as I recall.0 -

Anyone care to explain how I upload a video to this site? I can't see any way of doing it.
It's quite interesting on a personal level - having actually got my dashcam and viewed it back, it's not quite how I remember. My memory is the car being almost entirely on my side - in fact it was still mostly on its own side, but was incredibly close to the lorry it was overtaking.
Edit - I've managed to upload an image, at least:

Well that doesn't do you any favours. Looking at it it looks like you're hugging the centre line to make a point. Also it is on a clear straight section that has the thick end of half a mile left in the screenshot and you would have had plenty of time to see what was going on, slow down a bit and move over to the left.
In short it appears that despite Aylesbury Duck claiming you are pro road safety you are yet another in a long line of dashcam owners who take deliberate actions to create drama where none need exist. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I think I've worked it out. OP works for a research firm employed by one of the companies working on self-driving cars. The moral dilemma here is does the car hold its position and crash, with a high risk of fatalities (oncoming car, its own occupants), or does it risk the lives of workers on the road (if that were indeed the risk).
No doubt all of our responses will be fed in to a machine-learning process and educate the cars of tomorrow - whether or not those cars will be aware of our posting history in online forums and will add that in to their decision making process could be an interesting option...0
