    Afternoon Thursday Penny Wranglers,
Making progress on the 'small MSE things' today. On the list:
*Baked the sourdough loaf I mixed up yesterday.
*Lunch will involve lots of 'use-it-ups'.
*Refill little plastic snack boxes with dried fruit from stores.
*My ebay non-payer has now paid.
*Listed another 10 items on ebay.
*Sort out Christmas cards as intend to start writing them on Saturday. Oh...anyone else on an O2 contact? We each got a free pack of cards from WHS yesterday via the O2 app - lots of choice, price limit is about £8 so they are decent ones.
    *Write grocery shopping list.
    *Do a few surveys.
*Wrap rest of Christmas presents - still using my recycled wrappings stash. Haven't had to open any new rolls of gift wrap yet, tags all made from last year's cards & all ribbons recycled. Presents look pretty though!
*No downstairs heating on till much later. Am busy upstairs in my HQ most of today.
*Sorted laundry & only ironed those items which really needed it. I'm not wasting energy on unnecessary ironing, either mine, or the paid for kind!
    Have a productive day, all,
    F x
P.S - Signs that I spend too much time chatting to Ally online: Our cooker is going to be replaced next year & at the moment, due to knackered ignition system, the oven requires lighting with a taper. I actually found myself earlier today wondering which works out cheaper.....lighting the taper with a match, or momentarily lighting the smallest gas ring on the hob & lighting the taper from that. Can you believe I even thought such a thing?! (And I used to be so spendy!!)
(I used a match - & then added it to the compost caddy so as to extract about a microblob of nutrients for the garden at some point in the future!)

    Morning all :)
Awake half the night from coughing, so up early (already on my second coffee, done a quick tidy round, have texted my brother to tell him to come and pick up his washing, let the dog out and sorted a few items to put on ebay later when it is light enough to take decent photos).
Determined to get some stuff done, so today's plans:
    Cheapie porridge breakfast

Trip to next town, visit market and flea market. I want to buy a few plants for my front garden pots, but don't intend to spend more than £3 or so, as I can use mainly what I have. Also need some boring stuff such as loo rolls.

List above mentioned items on ebay Done
Make a spinach and feta filo pie for dinner, to use up garden spinach Done
Triage fridge and plan the next few days' meals to make sure everything gets used up. Done
Pay month's milk bill, which is only £8.44, and annual car insurance, which is considerably more  Still to do

There will be more, back later to update :)

Didn't stay out for long this morning as it was so cold and icy  So didn't get to the supermarket.

Got some good deals from the market though, a big bag of tomatoes, one of mushrooms, a cucumber and 6 huge pink grapefruit, all for £3. The grapefruit were only 50p (for all of them) as some of them looked a bit tired. I decided to make marmalade from half of them, which will be a double recipe needing 5 lb sugar, I cut them open and they are perfect inside :) The peel is now soaking in water as per the recipe, the juice is waiting in the fridge, and I will boil it all up tomorrow when I have bought the extra sugar needed. Pink grapefruit marmalade is the best! And in the meantime, I will have half of another pink grapefruit for pudding :D

Good evening all! Sorry I haven't managed to get on here earlier today, my little man has been 100 mile an hour today and I had an appointment with the job centre re benefits and lucky my Mum came to look after DS so I didn't have him running around the job centre! True to my word though I said I would get on here and I have!

I find Thursday evenings difficult as my ex has DS overnight so I sort of rattle about the flat by myself keeping busy!

    Anyway today:

    - Check banking - Done
    - Load of washing and hung up to dry - Done
    - Meeting at job centre - Done
    - Pick up DS birthday cake for Sunday - Done
    - Wrap up DS birthday presents ready for Saturday - Done
    - Quick clean of bathroom - Done
    - Hoover - Didn't manage to do this today but will do this tomorrow morning before I pick up DS

I'm feeling positive about the future and getting myself back on track! I hope everyone has had a good day and is well :)

    Morning everyone :) I'm having quite a lazy morning so far, I'm picking up DS from my ex at 11 so I'm just doing a few little jobs that I can't usually get done of a morning. I've got a few little bits that I want to get done today;

    - Check banking
    - Rearrange delivery of a missed parcel - Done
    - Hoover every room
    - Quick bathroom clean
    - Pop round and see my mum
    - Pop to shop to get milk
    - When DS is in bed tonight set out his birthday presents and blow up some balloons, his birthday is Sunday but I'm going to do presents with him tomorrow as we are out all day Sunday and then Monday he is with my ex, so a weekend birthday celebration!

Hope everyone has a good day :) x

    Morning all

    Big hugs to everyone!

Well the big thing yesterday/today is that the boiler finally seems to have given up on the heating. We do have hot water luckily but the heating is not forthcoming. All combinations of switching it off and on have been tried, although it has long been temperamental.

The age of the boiler means that it is unlikely to be fixable (although you never know) and may necessitate a New Boiler. This will come with a whole other raft of potential problems re the siting of the boiler.
None of this actually bothers me at all, but anyone who knows my feelings about any LL/LA contact will know that this has not made me feel good. And I may well be in for an extended period of contact and calls.

    MSE things:
    • B/L/D from stores - B/L but small treat for tea
    • Going for a walk with friends this afternoon - done
    • Use black Friday code to order Bulk Powders order - done
    • Gym this morning - done
    • No heating!! - it lives!
    • Tidy round in a fit of anxiety - done
    • Get OH to put second coat of paint on kitchen window - not today
    • Knit Christmas gift sock - am nearly at the heel turn - done
    • Try to be calm - done
    Have a good one all

Dawn - I love making (& eating!) pink grapefruit marmalade too. I've tweaked the recipe over the years & agree that soaking the peel overnight works best. The colour of the finished product is fab. I shall defo be making my usual batch in the new year. Our market often has pink grapefruits for a good price too, sometimes 3 for £1. That's why I find myself unable to buy them from the supermarket, as they are usually priced individually & so much more expensive than what I'm used to paying for them on the market. Fab on toast. I also like to stir a big spoonful into muffin mixture then ice them with a bit of lemon icing.

CLF - If you get your boiler looked at, it might possibly be fixable - is it a gas one? I had something similar at my old house. The gas boiler was pretty ancient & I came home one day to find I could get blisteringly hot water from the taps, but the radiators were absolutely cold. I called out a local gas man & I can't recall the name of the part that had busted, but it was fixable & I don't remember it being hugely expensive. It was to do with some part that was involved in transporting the hot water around the system - some sort of pump, & it was just moving & heating the same small amount of water, hence my water supply not being affected, but with no pump, nothing was getting into the heating system. It was an old Baxi gas boiler. Of course it might be something totally different in your case & it might be terminal. We had to have a new boiler about 4 years ago in our current house & it was £600 including fitting, but I guess this depends a lot on the type of boiler required.

    Morning all,
Up & at it this morning, as mr f wanted an early start to work with it being foggy. On today's list:
*Bake 2 loaves of bread - 1 granary & 1 white, which will provide crumbs, etc, needed for festive bread sauce & stuffing. The rest of the loaf can be frozen for when we find ourselves short of bread. (Toast is an absolute deal breaker for me!)
*Checked OLB to see if our Paypal money was there - it was - decided how best to apportion it - decided to use to pay for Marillion tickets, our Christmas turkey & to pop the rest in a cash bag for holiday expenses next month, when we have a few days away to celebrate mr f's big birthday (the young thing!) (The paypal money was earned from Ziffit, ebay & Onepoll).
*Jacket potato night tonight. I am opting for tuna melt with home made coleslaw. mr f has recovered all sorts of ominous looking containers of L/Os from the freezer, from which I deduce he is planning to construct an Epic Man Stew (rolls eyes......)
    *Wrap last few Christmas gifts.
*Sort out gift bags suitable for gifting my home made fudge - I don't intend to buy any, that's for sure, so will be delving into my recycled stash.
*Did a quick budget reconciliation - not long till payday, but we haven't been in overdraft for so long now (years!) that I'd be gutted if we went over because I'd missed something silly. Looks tight but ok.
    *Post ebay parcel.
*Might start writing cards today. My tendonitis is still bad, so I think I may need to do this in small sessions rather than attempt it all at once. I also think that the earlier I do it, the more likely it is that I will see people (who may be seeing other people on my list) & thus avoid a stamp or two. I know some people avoid all of this by sending e-cards & I know some of these are very pretty, but I love finding cards on the door mat through December, some of them containing letters, & I like arranging them as part of our decorations - e-cards just don't do it for me!
*Find our advent calendar hanging - can fill it up for free this year.
OK, am due a caffiene top-up so am off to put the kettle on.
Have a good day all - CCL you've made it to another Friday!
