I was very worried about retirement, but it's been great.
Careful use of discounts, wonderful tips from MSE etc and no obligations have made it fairly easy.
A funny pupil once called me 'a champagne socialist'.
My response - only when on offer in Tesco. Predates Lidl and Aldi!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

One of the luxuries important to me are cleaning products that don’t mess up the planet or make me wheeze. I use Method when they are on offer but they are expensive. I’ve just tried MnS as they have a new range. I used the kitchen cleaner. Seems good, smells good and costs £1. Worth a try if anyone else has similar concerns

I am starting up a veg box again. It is a luxury but I’ll have it once a fortnight and I’ll take the British seasonal box that costs £12.50. It is a real treat and ensures I eat well and make lots of soup as I can’t bear to waste any!
Chatting with a friend yesterday I discovered a company who delivers flowers to her once a week. Such a treat! I looked into it but it is £25 a bunch. A bit too rich for my blood. I thought about a fortnightly bunch but still too much. Anyway I am committing to always having flowers, but they will be YS bargains:). Got a bunch today for £2.70 (YS) They are orange and yellow roses. Lovely.
Hoping you are finding a way to inject some metaphorical or actual fizz into your day

£25 is a lot for flowers. £3 to £5 gets you a decent bunch in Aldi!0

I bought a bunch of rosebuds for a friend a couple of months ago which I got YS for £1.80. She sent me a photo about 10 days later and they still looked beautiful! Use by dates are stupid!

We used to go to a club.it was £1 to get in, n £1 drinks all night. They even dud free chicken n chips in a basket, not that I'd eat that ☺
I'm going way back mind you, but at the grand old age age of 15 I'd get the bus into town swearing down to the bus driver that I was under 14 so I paid only 5p half fare. Would get to town and go to the over 18 disco - entrance on a Thursday night was usually 10p but most weeks they'd give you a free voucher for the next week. Swear to the bouncer that I was 18 and reeled off false DOB - always got in. Bought several half pints of the cheapest beer at 9p a half. Then get out in time for the last bus home where I'd swear I was under 14 to get half fare home again. A whole night out for less than 50p. Mind you I had a Saturday Job in a clothes shop and worked from 9am till 6 for the princely sum of 60p! - Gosh I'm showing my age here!!!0 -
This reminded me of when my girls were young and middle daughter refused to eat soup - I used to make Minestrone and as long as I remembered to call it Minestrone Stew she loved it!Do you like casseroles or stew? If you do, Just make a really really thick soup and call it a casserole to fool yourself
My mother used ot put rice or pasta in a soup to make it go further, there was usually enough veg to stand the spoon up in, you could add borlotti beans for protein [ they go really well in a stand up veg soup] with some parmesan on top...I'm just thinking about a chicken, chorizo, parika and rice soup, sounds like it could be fun....0 -
So following on from advice from 'How i lived on a pound a day' I went to a University event - silent film with accompanying piano. The Magician. Complete with wine and nibbles, free :-) I did have to buy a bus ticket as it was straight after work, though my retired friends didn't even have that cost. And today - morning meeting had bacon rolls. Sadly didn't have an empty box with me for some leftovers though did take a bacon roll for lunch.20*25 for 2025: 489 / 5000

I too suffer with weeziness with cleaning products, bleach is particularly bad on my lungs. I also like Method cleaning products and at the moment at Tesco they are on offer at 3 for £6 so I am stocking up!doingitanyway wrote: »One of the luxuries important to me are cleaning products that don’t mess up the planet or make me wheeze.
