Little un has had a lot of hurdles to jump over and for a long time, coming on for nearly 30 yrs now.. it seemed that a normal life was something other people lived, and we dare not hope that our son (or us) would be able to live something of an independent life - and would always be dependant on us to some degree

But I am glad to say, that part of our lives, being depended on seems over - he seems in great shape and long may it last. AND furthermore to be honest it feels a bit of a relief
    - does that sound bad? It is so draining being a carer / working full time

It doesn't sound bad at all. I know how draining it can be being a carer.xx That is fantastic news for your son and for you both.:)

That was the reason I developed fibromyalgia after taking care of my husband mainly on my own when he had cancer. Now I put self-care as a priority.

Last night mine were of the Hygge variety......a cosy house, a good cup of coffee and some nice chocolate whilst watching Denzel Washington in a film called "Flight". Great performance by Denzel as an alcoholic airline pilot. I love that man, not only a great actor but a great orator and motivational speaker. Check out his motivational speeches on U-tube.

    I really enjoyed that film.:A

  • I have a GP appointment today. I am going to go for a walk to get some fresh air and daylight before I go there.

I have 6 lots of fabric dye to use up so I am going to look around the charity shops for white or beige tops/shirts afterwards. I have a strict budget of £20 and will stick to it.

I know I am on a budget now but I found that £20 in my purse and dotted around the house and the fabric dye is already bought so it has to be used.:D

I am dyeing the clothes passion pink today, a nice, happy colour.

I am having a cup of proper tea to wake up. OMG it tastes delicious as I gave up coffee and tea this year but now I have the occasional cup of tea and I really enjoy it so much more as a treat.

Simple christmas: dds have christmas breakfasts at school tomorrow. DD1 will bring 1l of orange juice and 1l of soya milk; dd2 will bring 4 small strawberry yoghurts. All from A1di, so that does not break the bank :)

DD1 has a christmas gift exchange in her class: they drew names, and the gifts have to be homemade. We baked vanilla cupcakes, she decorated them with the sprinkles we had in the house, I made a box and a lid from some decorative cardboard dds had in their craft stash. Voil!! Cheap and cheerful and very easy to make :)

Good morning everyone......how are we all. Not too rushed off your feet I hope. Don't forget it's your Christmas too, so don't drive yourselves into the ground in a mad frantic rush to "get everything done".

Remember it doesn't have to be perfect like in the magazines. :rotfl:

Make time for those champagne moments.......even if it's just a quiet 5 minutes with a cup of coffee whilst you take a breather.

Big champagne moment for me yesterday......the decorator finished. I have to say the house looks wonderful (apart from the kitchen which will get done in February).

I am so pleased with the job he has done.....it took him roughly a weeks work. Yes I could have done it, but it would have taken me a lot, lot longer. It would probably have dragged on for a couple of months and I would have ended up having to pay for massages and or physio to recuperate. So well worth the money.

A lesson learned for me......I mustn't be so stubborn, I must admit that there are now going to be times when I need to buy in help. I'm not 30 any more. :rotfl: I may feel young mentally and I may be young at heart but it's time to listen to my body and start taking better care of it.

Actually that is top of my hit list for next year.....to get fitter and stronger. That will be my priority. I want my body to last at least another 20 years. :rotfl

It's the Winter Solstice tomorrow. A time for rest and reflection. Yes, it will be the shortest day and it is the official start of winter but don't despair. From then on, the days get longer, the sun returns to the northern hemisphere and spring is not far off. Mother Nature is just resting.

I'm going to spend the next few weeks enjoying the high points of midwinter - lots of Hygge - cosy days and nights in my now pretty and comfortable home, eating good healthy food, doing some yoga, reading, thinking, planning, watching TV, listening to music, sewing and crafting, walks on good days. Best of all spending quality time with family and friends.

    Happy Solstice Everyone.

Happy Solstice, lessonlearned . I am celebrating today because last night (according to the BBC weather app for my area) was the longest night and today is one minute longer. Obviously it varies from one part of the country to another. We had friends round for our traditional Solstice meal last night, and drank a champagne toast to my OH no longer with us. I find this a good way of kickstarting the season's celebrations.

My son left this morning for his trip to Bangkok, where he will spend Christmas and New Year with his friend and her family. Just me and the animals now for a couple of weeks. I work two days a week so get plenty of social interaction there, and there are various people, friends and family, to keep in touch with. Books and magazines to read, TV to watch, food to eat, dog to take walkies, I shall keep busy but also have completely self indulgent, idle moments.

I too hope to get the living room decorated next year, just waiting for the last two fish in the aquarium to die so I can get rid of it. As I have got older I have realised that you might as well save a lot of hassle and energy by paying other folk to do some jobs. They'll do a better job in half the time, and it keeps local people in work.

  • My Champagne moment yesterday afternoon was going to see the film CATS at my local Odeon in Streatham. I used my Odeon Limitless card to buy my ticket. :D

    ODEON says...
Meet the fabulous felines at the movie’s all-singing/all-dancing heart!

Featuring Lloyd Webber's iconic music and a world-class cast of dancers under the guidance of Tony-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, In the Heights), the film reimagines the musical for a new generation with spectacular production design, state-of-the-art technology, and dance styles ranging from ballet to contemporary, hip-hop to jazz, street to tap.

With a host of A list stars this musical is a delight to the senses. The singing and dancing leave you wanting more. I loved this film and for me it is a 10/10 :T

Sending you get well vibes, hope it passes soon, perhaps think about taking/upping the dose of pro-biotics to help your gut biome repair as soon as it can. (As soon as you can tolerate taking things of course).

Sorry to hear you are poorly.

I was going to put this in a PM but am on a different computer and can't get the hang of it so here goes.........

Having bumped into you on so many threads (but found you here first) may I say how inspiring and super-ducious you always seem to be. Thank you. Because of you (and all the lovely others) I am going to start a new year with hope and oodles of challenges.

I really am going to be starting from the bottom. And I am no spring chicken. Hopefully by the end of the year I WILL be living a champagne lifestyle on a lemonade budget, instead of a lemonade lifestyle on a tap water budget ! :rotfl:

Anyway here's to you and all the lovelies that give of their time in posting on threads like this.

    Cheers

Ooh never thought of doubling up probiotics. Will do, can't do any harm.

Took some paracetamol too, whacked up the heating and resting under a heated throw. Don't feel quite so shivery now. Not very hungry but drinking lots of water.

Watching some chick flicks......Sense and Sensibilty, Pride and Prejudice.
