Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget.

Hi Folks! I'm new to this thread, I've been reading it for a couple of weeks & it's very inspirational - I'm not a lemonade.
The amount of money I can spend each month is about to be cut in half, but that's fine - the house will be more peaceful!
My top tip to you... I use an app on my phone called 'Too Good To Go', it's a list of restaurants and take-aways who bag-up unused food & sell it for a fraction of the price, rather than binning it. the collection times vary, but it's usually 8-9pm. For example, sushi (my achilles heel), £3.50 for 3 massive platters of what was left, I worked out it was £30 worth!
There's also a lovely bakery near me who bag-up bread & pastries for next to nothing!
It's great if you're near the city or shops.
Enjoy!

LL hopefully I'll get the money back from the credit card company. So glad I bit the bullet with the other flight, as people are struggling to get them now, n the prices are shocking:eek:.

Thank you all for the encouragement re the charity thing. I hope it doesn't come across as blowing my own trumpet, because really for a large part I am doing it for selfish reasons
As well as working (now in the much less stressful job) - I am also a PT advocate/carer to ................... There are ups, and there are downs, but the downs are very very draining ...............................................it is not a terminal condition, but a lifelong one that has to be managed
In order to quell my anxieties, ( am being treated for my own anxiety and am in a carers group for this particular illness) the only way to attempt to cope is to keep busy, and what better way to help someone and maybe help myself too..and it is only one or two nights a month a
Don't worry though I do find time for myself, I have my own hobby that I do in the house and as a group outside of the house regularly, and I always find time for my hubby cos he is a good un...at the end of the day life is no pity party, and we all have down times and up and it is getting on with it best way we know how, whatever that entails
I am happy, all the above sounds bleak, but honestly for the most part I am. I try to take a balanced approach at life - and if one thing doesn't work, i try another
LL it really does sound like you need some 'me' time. Sounds like you have been through a great deal indeed.
Champagne moment - erm, well work day and we were in training , so does a free buffet lunch count? hahaha
Well I am off for a soak and a read xThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
My above post may look odd and hard to understand now - I have deleted a few bits and put dots in their place - because not everyone reading this thread is as kind as the people you guys, the regulars who contribute to it. I just said it all really because I just wanted people to see, I aint no saint - I have no own agenda for doing things too, that I am looking to gain something out of it myself too
I once read a quote that said ''Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans'' and that did not make sense to me until about five years ago
Feeling good today, just planning my outfit for today
At the weekend, I found the most spectacular cardigan in a chazzer, and today is it's debut haha
and, I have a champagne moment coming up - I am going out on Friday night! Yes a musical interlude awaits me. I have been looking forward to this for a while, it is some friends of mine doing a performanceThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Good morning my lovelies.....
Wide awake and raring to go. Still living in chaos but loving it, sort of - I'm always as happy as a pig in muck when decorating or getting work done, although I have to say I'll be glad to get my bedroom back. I'm getting too old for an airbed in the lounge:rotfl:. Nearly there. DS2 coming today to lend some muscle. Hopefully I'll be back in my own bed either tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
And I will have had a couple of afternoons off, spent in the company of my gorgeous grandson. ::D
Yesterday was funny, a real champagne moment. Whilst looking after him I decided to do a few yoga stretches to ease my aching muscles....he tried to join in. Great fun. One thing I will be doing once I'm straight again, is setting up a space for my yoga mat. I definitely need to loosen up before I seize up completely. :rotfl:
Ska lover.....i think we can always count a free lunch as a Champagne moment.
Of course you worry about your "little un". Anxiety is always difficult, whatever the cause. It can be overwhelming but you are doing the right thing by reaching out for help, joining carers group etc. I think keeping busy is probably the best approach and it's good you have your music. You seem to be doing all the right things.
The thing is there are always going to be stressful situations in life - some can be resolved, some can't. Some just have to be managed and we have to find ways of working round or with the stress. Horrible I know but I guess all we can do do sometimes is to play the hand we are dealt.
Everyone has to find their own way of coping. It will be different for each of us. I tried mediation but just couldn't get the hang of it, I just couldn't switch my brain off. However, I have found that whenever I feel stressed I like to work with my hands. I find it therapeutic. I get into the "flow" of whatever I'm doing - so that's my form of mediatation. Gardening, painting, sewing all help me to relax and still my racing thoughts.
Also, whenever I feel low I deliberately try and use laughter. I will watch films or read books that make me laugh. And now with the wonders of the internet I will watch daft u tube clips. As cheesy as it sounds, I do enjoy motivational videos. I will watch them whenever I need a kick up the derriere.
And of course I have my mantra. "dress up and show up". Sounds crazy, but it works for me. Even when my husband was dying I would put on some slap and a nice outfit...I did it for him as much as for me of course but I did find it helped me cope better.
Danni.....never heard about the "Too Good To Go" app. Sounds good though - especially the sushi.
Going to have a look at adding Now TV. They seem to have a wide choice of films.
Right time to get cracking. One final push today. I won't finish my bedroom completely but I will at least be in a position to get my bed set up and move back in. My back will be grateful. Lol.0 -
Hi it is me again ska lover.
I have had to make a new ''handle'' - I have no idea what my password was for the original account. I think it is automatically saved on my home laptop, but I would like to access this site whilst I am out and about too - and I realised cannot change the old password either as the old account was registered on previous work email to which I have no access any more.
Gosh the user lay out looks very different as a newbie, more confusing if you ask me
Thanks for your words LL - I am not sure how to quote on this new set up ''play the hand we are dealt' - this really resonates and you give some great advice there
It is strange you mention yoga, ive just started this and invested in a cheapo yoga mat. Most days I do a short session of it
I try meditation and in all honesty I really struggle with it too. I have even been to a local Buddhist temple and sat meditating with them - and still, I am not able to switch off. Maybe it comes with years of practice and I am too impatient
Anyway Newbie ska lover signing off - I really should be doing some work haha0 -
Champagne moments......seeing my bedroom almost complete and being able to move back in and sleep in my own bed again. :rotfl:
I'm exhausted but happy..

LL before adding NOW tv , have you not got Netflix? Or if any of you family or friends have, you can often use their sign ins . Or Amazon firestick?
Looked at Too good to go, n there's nothing near me, which is weird cos Preston's a university city, with hundreds of bars n restaurants
Have submitted my claim for the flight refund, which should be paid back in 10 days :j"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Champagne moment.....sleeping in my nice comfy bed again. Bliss.
The room is not quite finished, my poor DS ran out of steam and actually hurt his back. There is just one corner small section of wall where we need to insulate but I think I will get my handyman to finish that, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. I can then just give it one last lick of paint and it's done. My son has done more than enough, give him a break.
Anyway I'm in my room again and it's comfortable. Not quite a glamorous boudoir yet, but it will be. :rotfl: New wardrobes installed so Over the next few days I am going to have a nice big reorganisation of all my clothes and stuff. Going to have a declutter as I go.
Itching to get stuck in but can't really do much today because I've got granny duty but I can make a start on at least tidying all the diy stuff away.
Time to get cracking....have a great day y'all.
It's stopped raining so going to pick some flowers from my garden. Fill a couple of vases.
Flowers are nature's Chanel. Lol.0 -
