  • I'm feeling a bit blah today for some reason. I'm going to try and cheer myself up by listening to music and watching something funny like Friends on TV.

At least the rain has stopped and the sun has come out now.

Ska Lover.....that sounds wonderful. dressing up and showing up each day seems to have such a miraculous effect on our day. And in the workplace it really can reap unexpected dividends. Studies have shown that it can even improve career prospects and increase our salaries. What's not to like:rotfl:.

I remember seeing What Not To Wear, where a pub cleaning lady was given a make-over, and came out looking quite glamorous, and the pub landlady saying she would be more suitable behind the bar, now.

  • My Champagne moment yesterday was having a free ticket (worth £25) to see the musical SHIDA at The Vaults Theatre in Waterloo.

Set to a soulfully contagious score of rock, jazz, R&B, and gospel music played by live by an onstage band, SHIDA tells the true story of Shida Brown, an African-American girl growing up in New York. Tracing the ups and downs of her life, her dreams and heartbreaks, the story is told through the eyes of the characters who love her most, including her mum, best friend Jackie and teacher Ms Smalls. SHIDA is a daring and funny, sad and joyous story performed with heart and soul in a tour-de-force performance by Jeannette Bayardelle (Broadway’s The Color Purple, Hair, Girl From the North Country) directed by award-winning director Andy Sandberg. :D

This musical was absolutely brilliant. It far exceeded my high expectation. I was emotionally wrung out and totally entertained and uplifted by the end of the show and I simply wanted to watch it again immediately. Everywhere that Jeanette led with her astounding range of vocals and acting talent I gladly followed. :j:D:T

I would recommend this musical to anyone as this musical is not one you should miss. :D A resounding 10/10
  • Morning all! :) HAPPY FRIDAY

Well today I am half day from work , few errands and then champagne moment - going to see a string quartet - some friends of mine are putting on a performance - and it is promising to be a fantastic evening - so very excited.

This morning I have come in to work in Jeans and a sparkly top, but I am planning to dress up to the nines later on :)

Oh - another champagne moment - I also signed up to 'Birchbox' which is beauty box scheme. They have a newcomer offer where you get two boxes for the price of one - so I have signed up specifically for this offer and then I will cancel my membership. One of my friends is a regular and speaks highly of it, but I cannot afford a tenner each month, but the 2 - 4 - 1 offer was a massive draw for me - so very excited for the postman!
  • OH and your bedroom sounds like it is going to be awesome LL

Hows your son, and his poorly back?

One problem in our bedroom is lack of storage, we really need fitted wardrobes. My wardrobe is now (thanks to the last couple of weeks) brimming over and im struggling to fit anything in, but Mr Ska is so far refusing to give up some space in his - even though he only uses about a third of the space....I might just sneak in half a dozen dresses, as he is unlikely to even notice hahaha

Might he be tempted to wear them though.......:rotfl::rotfl:

Sons back is improving., thanks. He's young, they bounce back quickly at that age.

Just having a break, having a major sort out and reorganising my wardrobes and cupboards. I am packing all my summer stuff away now, somehow I dont think I'm going to need summer clothes again for while........

As I sort through I can see a few gaps in winter apparel......need more knitwear, trousers and maybe a couple more skirts. And definitely some undies......

It will take a few days to get straight, I'm cleaning thoroughly and decluttering as I go but I am aiming to take a bit of a break and have a browse round the shops and chazzers soon, try and get my hair cut.

The beauty box sounds exciting. Enjoy your string quartet sounds wonderful.

SUgarbaby......I am quite envious at times of your access to the west end. Fab. I noticed they are doing a cinema screening of Miss Saigon, next week. I might try and catch it. And of course, I'm really looking forward to Judy in a couple of weeks.

Wednesday.....hope you feel better soon. The weather isn't very conducive to feeling cheerful but like you I find music helps.

Whilst I'm working I have been listening to a Hanz Zimmer compilation. (Movie soundtracks such as Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar, Rush, Batman, Last Samuriai). Wonderful music, makes me want to watch the films again. I shall definitely be curling up with a movie later with a nice curry and a glass of something.

I have put a couple of lbs on because I have tended to just grab and eat on the go for the last couple of weeks whilst I have been so busy but I'm not dieting today. I'll give it a day or so and then start again. I would like to lose a further half stone by Christmas, should be doable. I'll get back to it in earnest next week.

Right coffee break over......back to work.

    Hi all

I am ever so pleased, I have managed to sort out my original account and add a new password. It is really strange how newbies get such a completely different lay out to the older accounts, I don't think I could have got used to that - it all looks odd and less user friendly than how it does on older accounts

I have had some fantastic champagne moments over the last 24 hours

First off, my Birch box offer arrived - they had a BOGOF offer on, which was why I signed up.
There were two lovely decorated boxes that can be reused for nicknacks, and inside each box were five lovely beauty bits, including hand creams, mascara, hair shine spray, leave in conditioner, relaxing pillow spray, etc. Most of the items are mini sized other than one regular size in each box. The best item was a Benefit lip and cheek tint - I think this may be a handbag regular . The whole thing was a fair deal paying a tenner for the both, but...I did cancel my subscription now I have received the bogof offer, as I wouldn't pay a tenner for one of them each month, that I would consider a rip off to be honest

Then last night, my husband presented me with a parcel - he had heard me mention the shop LUSH last weekend, when I walked past and wandered in, and back out again without buying anything because of how expensive it is.....well he presented me with a LUSH gift set, I got five bath bombs and a wonderful sleep set, which is shower gel and body lotion, with lavender tones

I am absolutely over the moon that he had done this and so very pleased.

Todays been a busy one, woke up early to go dentist (eeeek), then I went plant shopping

There is a lovely man near me, who cannot work due to a health condition, but he grows and sells plants, he has a permanent stall in h is front garden. One of the nicest genuine people he also makes ornaments for the garden. He sells all this at very reasonable prices - so I am quite a regular and am very fortunate to live near him. I was looking for some indoor plants today as I want to add more greenery to our environment , and I came away with four large aloe veras and a present for my mother in law, which was a garden ornament dog statue

So spent the rest of the afternoon repotting where neccesary and rearranging stuff to fit my new plants in

The string quartet last night were superb. The concert was in a church which added to the acoustics - and there were quite a few people I knew from my musical group there, so despite going alone, I was sitting with people I know, which was nice

When I was working at my old job and was very stressed out, I found that I was drinking an awful lot - most nights if I am honest - and now I have got the new stress-free job , these days I barely drink - it is so nice /refreshing to have a night out, where I do not touch a drop.

    lovely champagne moments ska lover
For me yesterday's champagne moment was finally getting round to my dobbies' birthday treat (1 month late!) I am a member of their club (£10 per annum) for which i get 2 hot drinks per month and on my birthday they send me a card with a voucher for 2 scones and 2 hot drinks (as well as other benefits).

Went with mum and DD2 (who wanted cake so mum bought that) and mum and i had scones. After a bit of umming and ahhhhing we decided not to spend 70p each on small jars of jam. Imagine my mse delight when i found 2 half-used on the next table and another 1/2 used plus half a pot of clotted cream on the table next to that. Very mse, very delicious, and can also bask in environmental goodness :D

  • Good morning everyone......

Some lovely champagne moments Ska, the beauty box treats sound fab but as you say maybe not such a bargain when it's just the one box. I used to be a member of a beauty club many years ago. It was nice to try new things but often they sent me stuff I didn't particularly want so I stopped it in the end.

How sweet of your husband to treat you to some Lush goodies. Luckily lady, he sounds fab. Just the sort of thing my husband used to do.

Well done cutting down on the demon drink.....you know it makes sense. I enjoy a drink, and chocolate and smelly French cheeses and sunbathing.....I just try and do them in moderation now. :o

Wednesday.........hope you feel a bit brighter now. Your "cure" sounds good though.

Yesterday I felt a bit low......no idea why. Probably just tiredness and overwhelm. So, rather than keep pushing myself, I decided to take a step back yesterday and seek out some champagne moments.

I got dolled up and went out for a bit of retail therapy. I browsed several charity shops and picked up some nice bits. Two jackets, a skirt and cardigan. Then I ended up in Sainsbury's, just in time to pick up some yellow stickered items. So a nice productive day in the end.

Anyway it did me good to get out and about. Today I'm going to do a bit more sorting and tidying up and some batch cooking. Just a gentle potter today.

A nice champagne moment this morning, popping on to the scales and discovering I've lost 1lb. Wahoo.

Ps......one of garden centres has just been taken over by Dobbbies...I'll sign up.
