  • And I'm sure, had the parcel gone missing, the sender would have claimed back the full insurance value if they could.

Bit of having your cake and eating it there.

As custards said, why should RM pay you back for a mistake?

If you have to send something overseas to be repaired, then it's not liable for VAT and duty, whatever its value (as long as the tax was paid originally). For customs, only the cost of the repair is important. This doesn't affect its insurance value, so the value for customs and the insurance value are two separate things.

Because RM performed the service, as per the declared value.

I was just pointing out that HMRC will refund VAT and duty in the event of a mistake...

    Because HMRC accepted your evidence.
    Does that change RMs costs?

Well not quite. If its repaired and original then yes.
If its replaced then duty maybe due.

I wasn't complaining about RM's costs! Just pointing out to the OP that they might be able to get the tax back but not the RM fee!

The op was made over 8 years ago!

No, it was made on the 9th of this month (the original post in this part of the thread)
  • Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have encountered the same problem. There are two questions I have. Can I pay the tax upfront so I don't have to pay the collection fee?
The second question is that the collection fee does seem to vary. Looking through the posts I've seen different amounts being charged. The amount I have been asked to pay is £12 plus the tax owed. I have also purchased goods that cost less than the threshold amount and still been charged for tax and collection

Huh? I get charged £8 by ParcelForce. I thought the higher fee was if it was sent by EMS?
