Siju such a shame about the small shops closing and everything going corporate. I still fondly remember from childhood the weekly shopping schedule; Hintons on a Thursday evening as it was the only night supermarkets were open late and then Saturday morning trip to the market, butchers, bakers to get the rest of the weekly food supplies. Mum got housekeeping in cash when Dad got paid on Thursday and that had to last. I suppose I've gone back to that with changing to a cash only budget for food, petrol and spending money, it certainly made me realise where I was wasting funds by just handing over a card.

I did use my card yesterday though; brace yourselves; I bought SANTA SPECIAL STEAM TRAIN TICKETS FOR 22ND DECEMBER  If you don't get them on the day they are released you can't get the service you want.

Anyway on a lighter note, seaside trip on Friday so hopefully more change for the pot.....and last night three little froggy heads all in a row popped out of the pond :D

I agree Hettyhound, it is a shame to see smaller independent stores closing. I try to support our local butcher but we have to travel to find a grocer now. My mother shopped locally on a daily basis when we were growing up, but a grocery van used to visit each week and supply us with all our fruit and veg and they used to carry over the sacks of potatoes to the house as well - we got through quite a lot as there were 7 of us to feed  BTW, congratulations on your little froggies :T

Nothing to pot today, hopefully get something tomorrow!

As payday is close have added £14 to my pot as I should have enough to see me through. Hopefully after payday I can add a little extra.

Siju I actually remember us buying sacks of potatoes from the farm and a big brown paper sack standing in the outhouse and then being sent out with the washing up bowl to get some spuds out. About a year ago our local greengrocer closed and then everyone persuaded the young(ish) lad who worked there to take on the lease and re-open. Its always busy when we call in. Much prefer it to pre packed stuff from the supermarket but can only get there on a Saturday due to work. We have a really good local butcher too; you have to queue out of the door. But whatever happened to all the fishmongers? There used to be one in the town I grew up in (it was smelly so I remember it!). Ah well off to the seaside tomorrow so will get my fill of fish :)

PS sorry for hijacking with food reminiscence :D

    Evening Potterssssssssss

Sorry to have been AWOL so long again! school hols have knocked me for six. Its horrible to think that in less than 2 weeks my 'baby' Miss Lily will be putting on her secondary school uniform :( I'm not ready!

Miss Harley is now 17 1/2 weeks old and our 'not so little' ray of sunshine :) She's so lovely and brings us so much happiness its crazy. She does have a thing about sitting in the hallway when the lights are off so we can't see her :rotfl: black dog and black hallway do not mix, we've tripped over her a few times :rotfl: Her favourite place to sit and sleep is underneath my recliner, she's very proud of herself as she can now get on the sofa without any help and I get woken up each morning to photos of her sat in my recliner :rotfl: little tinker then jumps down when she hears me get up and sits by the chair all innocent :rotfl:

Been selling some of my craft stuff and have made a few quid here and there which has gone in the craft tin and have potted a few £2 coins and other bits and bobs, not lots but still a steady stream of dribs and drabs.

I don't really have a lot of news :o its all dog related, I've turned into one of those pet owners, phone is full of dog photos, facebook a sea of dog photos, can't go past a pet shop without buying her a present :o Anyway, off to hug my dog goodnight :rotfl:

OK so maybe just the odd ice cream here and there, just to sociable you understand :D

You old flanneler, Hetty, I just knew it wasn't only for your little lad! :rotfl: Still, it is summer, for now.

It certainly makes you reminisce when looking back to the old shops of the past. Don't worry about the reminiscing, it never hurts and I don't mind for sure. BTW. You've definitely learned well from your Mum. More lovely memories ahead for you and your little boy to look forward to.
Really pleased to hear about the frogs; it paints a lovely picture when imaging it. :D Enjoy yourselves tomorrow... with ice creams naturally! ;)

Good for you, Maddie, that's a lovely amount potted!! :D

Great saving Melody!! I hope you're making the most of your week off. :D

I see your problem, siju, but whatever you do - stay safe!! :naughty: It's a real shame so many small shops have been ousted due to the chain stores. Not so many corner shops these days!
    Really good potting!!
I haven't a clue about Mcfisheries or any other fish shop for yonks; DH always used to swear and whizz of past them with me giggling at him as he just can't stand the smell of it!!! Same old thing I suppose, swallowed by the supermarkets!

We are trying to support local shops, including our greengrocers because of not wanting plastic, but then he put the price of everything up, so our fruit and veg suddenly becoming £3 more each week, too much for just DH and I!! Why do they have to be on the make!!

Very well done, Homegrown! Followed by another lovey lot!! :D

About time to jakes-mum, though I guess your forgiven with it being summer holidays and pup! ;) Crikey, your Lili is going THAT AGE already?!!!!

Harvey sounds a really crafty little devil, though beware of her hallway habits!
Well done with your sales and savings.

You sound so excited, IWillsucceed!! :j Though it's nigh on impossible not to really be looking forward to opening our pots when it's September next week!!!!! Whatever it is, like the rest of us, be so hugely proud of yourself, as it'll be money saved - not spent!!!!!! :T Keep it going!

£15 in the pot and really happy as it's been an expensive week.

Enjoy a beautiful Bank Holiday weekend folks.
    ...and don't forget....your pots!! ;)

    Sue

Before I start I have potted £2.41........ OK so my son’s was mint choc chip dipped in chocolate sprinkles with a flake; he’s six so it’s allowed in my view. Mine was a “bramblestoker” which was blackberry ice cream with big white choc chips in and a flake, yum yum! My cousin outdid us both with a double scoop of chocolate and bramblestoker and a flake!!! A marvellous day all round, fish and chips by the harbour, a paddle in the sea, a trip on a boat, an ice cream and a small gift for my boy from the RNLI shop. Beautiful sunshine and plenty of good sea air; a good one for the memory bank :D
