This thread sums up what this commercial exploitation has done with people. Spend your money on tack and go around demanding others oblige your intolerance.

Actually it sums up the people who have no interest in embracing other people's enjoyment and instead just damn it with sweeping inaccurate sentiments that they apply to everyone indiscriminately :rotfl:

Commercial exploitation: Based on what evidence? Last time I checked, there is zero obligation for any money to be spent on celebrating Halloween, and even if money is spent it needn't be spent on anything 'commercial'. This isn't an attack by the big greeting card and toy manufacturers. Businesses earn very little in comparison, and what they are earning is based on demand.

Tack: What tack? Treats for the kids? Fun outfits that the children love wearing? A few quid on carving and creating pumpkin lanterns?

Demands: Who is making these demands? Call the police if someone is demanding something from you.

And as mentioned - it's pretty easy to opt out if you're unhappy with others enjoying themselves.

It's a conspiracy brought about by the vast and powerful pumpkin growing lobby.

I don't know how them monsters sleep at night.
  • I do not call hound around knocking on people’s doors enjoyment.

Commercial exploitation. Why are the emporiums full of cattle fodder pumpkins and pointy hats if that is not to fleece the gullible.

Tack is cheap items of shoddy quality. Items like skeletons that will be in the bin by Friday morning.

I do opt out. I don’t need to see you knocking at my door. Yet still they will do so.

I used to enjoy my birthday on Bonny night. Now all I see is greed and tacky people playing none sense.

    Some interesting facts here

    https://news.sky.com/story/half-the-uk-population-will-spend-money-on-celebrating-halloween-11540552

In 2017 over £400 million was spent in the U.K. on Halloween products.

I am definitely in the live and let live group. Fortunately, for me anyway (!) I live on a private estate which is a warren with very few kids so I'll be undisturbed. I have no interest in Halloween but don't see a problem with others celebrating and enjoying it as long as they don't want me to be involved.

Not sure that I have to "embrace other people's enjoyment". I find that a bit condescending, if I am honest. I don't expect others to participate in or "embrace" stuff that I like doing.

And - as my friends will tell you I am not Mr Miserable in any way, shape or form. Quite the opposite!

So... don't do it then. Seems pretty simple to me. How does that relate to what *other people* do (or don't) find enjoyable?

Sweets all ready in a bowl (shop bought of course), pumpkins on the doorstep (fake with battery operated lghts) and a large cutout pumpkin face hanging from the front door. We have loads of families in my street with little ‘uns and we enjoy it. It’s a bit of fun. What a load of miserable Scrooge’s some of you are!

So your plan is to give out potentially dangerous* food to children? Because that's the behavior of a reasonable adult.

*If they taste bad it means they've spoiled in some way and *could* have harmful bacteria and/or toxins in them.

Well why shouldn't I get some amusement out of Halloween too?

Well after reading all previous posts I've decided to go with the man traps up driveway and brussels sprouts or shallots dipped in chocolate :D

Can you still get laxatives in chocolate form?
