Do you not get an entire year to plan for people knocking at your door??

I'm not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse or you really don't get it.That's a misunderstanding of how society works. One is enjoying something that affects other people, the other is demanding that people cannot enjoy anything unless it has zero consequence on anyone else's life.
I'm not demanding that people don't enjoy themselves.
Just that I don't want them on my property.
How hard is that to comprehend?0

The old pumpkins make good eating for local wild animals, and the farmers make good profits on the sale as it's direct to consumer on pick-your-own farms. If anything, they're an excellent economic addition to our farms.0

When did I not comprehend that? I think I've been quite clear that I do indeed comprehend that. Please quote me where I directly disagreed with your want to not have people on your property.
I'm telling you that a) you do not have a legal right for people not to approach your house unless you choose to lock your front gate; and b) if it bothers you then do something about it instead of telling everyone else to stop it. Don't be so lazy.0

I echo what I said previously. These kind of comments show everything that is wrong with certain sections of society.
"It's my right to do this, It's my right to do that. Everyone must do what we want" etc
Luckily i'll be working tonight. However I hope theres some adults that aren't interested in children begging on their doorstep that will give the coldcallers with their children a lecture.
Want to beg? Go sit down by homeless bob in the highstreet and let him have the sweets.0

So the festival one - how is that not exactly the same? You have the right to drive down the road unimpeded by some festival you didn't ask for. How dare they change things up and inconvenience you.
And that is a total untruth. You don't expect it, because otherwise you wouldn't be here arguing about it. You DO expect people to knock at your door tonight. It's happened in our society for decades.
Halloween isn't optional. You may hate it, disagree with it, and scream to high heavens once a year over it. But it isn't optional, and it very much is expected. Unfortunately for you, millions of people enjoy it, so it is here to stay.
If you don't choose to participate, then your other options are to either try and maximise your chance of a peaceful night, or not to.
Also this right that you have to never have anyone ever knock at your door - I'd be very interested to find out what law you think that comes under. If you have an unlocked gate, it is accepted within law that someone can approach your house to communicate with you. If you express to them that you wish for them to leave your property, then it becomes trespassing and illegal. You should probably put a note or something on the gate to express this wish.
It's very different because the crowded shop is not my property.
I would have to choose to go shopping at Christmas.
Can you really not see the difference? :wall::wall::wall:
Halloween is a date in the calendar.
No date in the calendar is optional.
The money-making Halloween that you refer to is most certainly optional.
And I opt not to have hordes of kids traipsing down my drive.
WOW! A note on the gate?
Now I have to put a gate up to put a note on to stop these kids.
 I'll stick with the man-traps.
And the chocolate dipped onions for the ones who evade the traps.
 Face it.
 Not everyone like Halloween.
Don't visit unless you're sure you'll have a warm welcome.
 It's not rocket science.0

I didn't realise people get so heated about Halloween! Does it really bother you that much?!
What has society come to when people get so enraged about such small things.....HOW DARE THEY KNOCK ON MY DOOR.....HOW DARE THEY COME ON MY PROPERTY.....HOW DARE THEY BEG...... If that's the case would you be as enraged about a poppy seller? Aren't they uninvited and 'begging for money'? Children enjoy dressing up and this one night a year gives them a good excuse to go out with their friends, meet the neighbours and gorge on some chocolate which is normally rationed from their parents. Maybe teaching the children that their neighbours aren't miserable and that they can be approached will help for when those same children are slightly older and those neighbours need a hand with their shopping, or to hold a ladder or just to say hi when they recognise them.
Halloween isn't about begging for sweets, they can get them from their parents easy enough, it's about the fun of dressing up, going out with your friends and just having some harmless fun...........yes there are a*hole teenagers that will spoil it but that can happen any other night of the year when their coming home from a night out on the town or just being a*holes causing trouble after school
Maybe save your rage for something worth while rather than bleating on about your 'rights' and 'inconveniences'......cheer up you were a kid once!
If it bothers you then take action and stick a small piece of paper on your door saying 'no trick or treaters' ....takes 5 seconds and you can relax for the evening then take the sign off the next morning.....WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO?!!! because that's our society, if you don't like it....Tuff!!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Ive come to the conclusion that you're not being deliberately obtuse.
My point is that you are telling me that I must take action to stop these kids knocking on my door.
 I don't agree.
 No action should be necessary.
Nobody should knock on anyone else's door for thus over-hyped nonsense unless they know they will be welcomed.0

I do love how people trick or treating are your idea at what is 'wrong' with society. Do please bring this up at your next council meeting, and demand change from your MP when the next general election is due. I'm sure it's extremely high on their priority list, right next to actual crime.0
