    I preferred the original Stratos.

I also love the Delta Integrale

I had a HF Turbo ie F91FGH in black. Loved that car. Ah happy memories of having to whack the starter motor with a lump of wood to make it work 'very Lancia'.

I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.

That's what makes some of those older cars a bit special though. I won't lie, I'm so bored of modern cars. They're irritatingly reliable, even the bangers and when they do go, it's just wear and tear. It's those old memories (banging the starter motor etc) of cars that gives them an almost human imperfect quality to them.

I do remember a close mate of mine owning a 205 Gti and although it hardly ever worked, when it did, it was a thing of beauty.

Chap just down the road from me has one very like that - 85 on a B plate. Also has a F plated Cortina Mk2. I still prefer the Mk 1 - maybe it's because when something appears that's new and distinctive, it sticks in the mind and subsequent versions are less interesting even if they are technically better. Still with Fords - the Mk 1 Focus was a big change from the Escort and stood out; the Mk 2 was a bit duller and the Mk 3 and new Mk 4 are increasingly anonymous.

I've been trying to think of a post-2000 car that could be a future classic and would still look good (not including super cars and hypercars). The original Smart Car will always be recognisable but for originality not looks. BMW Z8 perhaps?
I need to think of something new here...

Lupo GTi. Made them till 2005. To me they're the spiritual successor of the MK1 Golf and will be worth a fortune in a few years time.

Indeed, the Capri hasn't been mentioned once, apart from posts 2,3,6,10,11,32 & 49.

I am seeing XJ's all over the place! This mornings, a nice XJ executive, whatever that might be. Fluted radiator trim, like Daimler.

The xj8 came in Sport or Executive trim. The former had a painted radiator grille rather than stainless steel. Confusingly, my Executive had a painted grille which was the wish of the first owner and actually I thought that it looked the better for it. There were various other differences of trim but no mechanical differences.

The OP said "looks nice"... it may be a great car as a pocket rocket or as a base for some chav-tastic mods but what's nice looking about that?

SportKa/ StreetKa convertible. May not be as good a drive but it's more interesting to look at... (although Marmite for many I'd guess)

  • I thought the Capri improved in shape through development.

Mk1 Capri was gorgeous. Ford lost it as soon as the added the hatch IMHO
