Lancia Stratos - an iconic shape.

Iconic? I think not. You'd struggle to find anyone - apart from Lancia fanatics - who could remember it, let alone describe the shape.

what about the 1970,s rally fans?, i was never a Lancia fanatic but i will never forget the stratos rally cars from the 70,s

I was wondering which classic car models, forum users consider to still look "nice"?

for me it has to be a 1970,s Triumph Stag

Surely the real test of a classic design is the number of companies turning out realistic copies in the present day?
So for me the Porsche 356 wins. Several companies make replicas, I would love a Chesil Speedster.

I'd make space in my fantasy garage for a few everyday cars which I loved the engineering of, and I'd be happy to use in everyday life. I'm not that interested in exotica which can't be used every day.

Citroen Traction Avant (first mass front wheel drive)
    Citroen DS (loads of advances)
Triumph Dolomite Sprint (first mass 16v engine)
    BMW 2002i
    Granada Mk2 2.8i estate
    Landrover 101
    Ford model T
    Stanley Steamer
    Landrover defender
    Toyota landcruiser amazon V8
    Fiesta XR2
    Mazda MX-5 and/or Toyota MR-2

Had one of those. When it was working it was the best car I ever had. It wasn't working very often.

I also had the Ford 2.8 engine mentioned above, in a Panther though, not a Granada.

    TR6 anyone?
Having had a Tiger Cub, a Herald & a Stag, I decided against another Triumph.

The Rover 75 v8 would be a more modern option for me as well.

Agreed the Rover 75 is one of the most attractive car shapes ever. Even the estate looks good. They made a pig's ear of the 'face' but perhaps the MG and Chinese versions are better in that regard
  • All the Michelotti Triumphs, many of which have already been mentioned.

Lancia Stratos - I'm not a Lancia enthusiast ;) but I do keep thinking about building a Hawk HF.

    Citroen DS19

There are a lot of 60s and 70s cars I have a soft spot for, and think look better than most modern saloons / hatches (which sadly all look bland, and never mind the !!!!!! "crossovers" manufacturers seem to push these days).

Unfortunately when you get old & decrepit ease of access becomes more important than looks.:(
