    Usually :-
    * Not following the very simple Mirror, Indicate, Maneuver. This seems to have become Maneuver (BRAKE) then one they've started turning, Indicate.
    * Parents of school children who will quite happily part on top of you if it gets them that little bit closer to their little Snowflake - usually fat women who could do with the walk.
    * People driving at 40MPH in a 60. Fine until you go to pass them then they are OUTRAGED. And moreoften if you do sit behind them will be doing 40MPH through the 30s as well.

I am glad I am not the only one to notice this. It makes my blood boil.

I'm a keen road cyclist. The confidence helps me stay safe and thousands of miles of road cycling means I read motorists better than the average non-cyclist.

I seem to have managed 16 years of driving tens of thousands of miles with no accidents or points.

Your snipes do not add up.

They might not add up, but it looks as if they hit home somewhere.

I expect you're an "alpha cyclist" as well, dropped bars and lycra. "I'm doing something important to me, never mind the queue of traffic behind"

Being a "good driver" an "alpha driver" (whatever that is), or "good cyclist", isn't a label that's in the gift of the individual to bestow on themselves. In my own opinion for what it's worth as a "non-alpha", some of the worst drivers I have been with thought themselves "good drivers"

No points / no accidents proves very little really apart from luck.

It may be very simple, but you've still managed to get it wrong;).

    It's "MirrorS (plural), Signal, Manoeuvre".

I didnt "manage to get it wrong" thanks.

The highway code says Mirrors, Signal, Manoeuvre however its more commonly referred to as Mirror, signal, manouevre.

Either way, you're missing the point somewhat - if people even checked one mirror these days it would be a major change.

Certainly by those who haven't read the HC for decades, or those who manage to pass their theory test without ever reading it ...

But you're right. One mirror would be a step in the right direction for some.

    1) Perhaps you are slowing down too much and too early for your right turn?

    2) Perhaps you are being unduly hesitant and slow in making your manoeuvre?

    3) You make a point of saying there are parked cars on the left parallel to where you turn so it seems doubtful the issue is that you are positioning too far to the left and preventing vehicles passing on your nearside.

1&2 - I can't see oncoming traffic, due to the bend in the road, and the parked cars, and I can't see my route into my street for the high wall forming the blind corner. How fast do you think I should be going?

Surely you accept that I have to be able to see the oncoming traffic, and see if there's any traffic leaving my street, in order to execute the turn safely? Or are you suggesting I just take a chance, and drive into the unknown so that the following driver can get to his workplace 30 seconds earlier?

I thought I made point 3 clear - there's room on the road for the parked cars to the left, me, and one lane of oncoming traffic, and that's a tight squeeze. Anything wider than a car approaching and I'd have to wait behind the parked cars for it to pass.

My driving instructor taught me it 32 years ago and it has stuck with me since.

Either way its a simple matra that people would do well by to remember and use.

Really? How do you know, did you take a test or win a motorist reading competition against average non cyclists?

If you can not cause a hazard to other traffic, you should not do so.

If someone is tailgating you and you don't feel comfortable, move over if you can. Brake-testing someone is idiotic.

If you are the person tailgating someone else, think about your own actions!

Try and have some patience out there, we are all trying to get to places for our own reasons.

My friends teenage child died in a collision recently and it really brings it all home to you. A little bit of patience goes a long way even if you think you are the one with the halo shining!

Strangely quite alot of sexism in this thread. Just an observation. Efficient driving is key. Stopping when unnecessary is inefficient, as is excess speed.
