Merging in turn prevents traffic? I'm pleased that you're happy to merge in turn but merging at the last minute is unlikely to be the safest, but what do I know, you're the Alpha male.

Well statistically you're not likely to be a good driver. Thanks for recognising that.

Based on your understanding of what a good driver is I'd rather be one of the 98% than one of the 2% of Alpha males that you consider yourself.

The main lesson is that you need to recognise the alpha-driver and pull out of the way. However, it would be better if you quit driving as you probably don't have the skill set.
Get over yourself. You can drive a car, you're nothing special.

I'm not sure being why you keep being sexist either.

Out of interest what would be the preferred weapon of choice for those in the elite 2%.
Alternatively what car would you alpha drivers drool over (or own)?
    Standard production models only please.
    Ta....
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

I've got an elderly Fabia with a 1.2 petrol engine. Again, you have assumed it's about driving fast. It's not. It's about not slowng down or waiting when you don't have to. Its about being the one with the confidence to decide what to do and being the first to commit to it (ie. I will always be the first to move at a mini roundabout Mexican stand off, in fact I probably wouldn't have stopped.

Because I assumed you were male. I don't think you are an "alpha driver" despite how you see yourself, you just enjoy being smug which is reflected in your driving.

Personally I'd prefer it if they stuck to a bicycle. . .
They'll probably be on one soon enough anyway when their "Alpha" behaviour catches up with their licence.

I'm a keen road cyclist. The confidence helps me stay safe and thousands of miles of road cycling means I read motorists better than the average non-cyclist.

I seem to have managed 16 years of driving tens of thousands of miles with no accidents or points.

Your snipes do not add up.

Interesting that a couple of you have suggested that the OP is the one at fault.

I only drive around 8 miles to work and then the same back again. Easy journey on the motorway and a bit of traffic getting to my road. Every single day I witness poor driving, impatience, aggressive drivers, children that obviously have no road sense - either running out without looking or teenagers texting whilst cycling and going all over the place - yet those drivers doing the right, safe thing are the ones who get the abuse.

Busy roads are a way of life these days - what's wrong with being kind, patient and above all safe.

Agreed. The ones i have issue with are the ones that clearly think the world revolves around them and everyone else should defer to their needs.

    Usually :-
    * Not following the very simple Mirror, Indicate, Maneuver. This seems to have become Maneuver (BRAKE) then one they've started turning, Indicate.
    * Parents of school children who will quite happily park on top of you if it gets them that little bit closer to their little Snowflake - usually fat women who could do with the walk.
    * People driving at 40MPH in a 60. Fine until you go to pass them then they are OUTRAGED. And moreoften if you do sit behind them will be doing 40MPH through the 30s as well.

The common courtesy of thinking about the needs of other road users seems to be a thing of the past now.
