NatWest Extends 0% APR deal to 9 months

For existing Natwest customers, I too was denied the upgrade route over the phone as they indicated they no longer did upgrades at all. So I chose to cancel the existing card there and then since the 5.9% BT option they did offer me was simply 5.9% too high for my liking!
Immediately I then applied online, and was accepted, no questions asked.
I think its wise to not apply for the same product, ie, if you had a gold card, dont apply for another gold - choose platinum,....and perhaps even already bank with them for a long time may prevent a further credit search. Not 100% on that though....
Platinum is available as a mastercard only by the way - not visa! So, if your an existing mastercard holder with natwest, that may lean towards a negative applying for another. Again, not 100% on that fact but makes sense if you think about it.
Ultimately, a good credit rating and good maintained payment history aswell as a good general banking background and consistent income will always bode well and be the deciding factor for existing customers.
In my experience, the telephone teams do not have a full understanding of the back office functions taking place and you can potentially get what you want by using other channels they provide. In some cases, end the call, and ring in again to get another persons spin or even progress on it. I was specifically told that cancelling a card means you cannot apply again for 8 months.....pah!!

Has anyone else had experience of getting this offer without having to cancel your card?
Many thanks

I would be surprised if it was possible....the phone assistant would have to pull some serious strings to get it done if it were possbile, I eventually spoke to a supervisor about it at the time, she knew it made no sense either, but had to evidently spew out to me the policy anyway. Like I said, before, having the same identical product twice is unlikely.
Its a risk cancelling, and then re-applying online,....but you have little to lose if you dont have the card and simply want it!
It is not impossible to apply for "a different" card as a new customer even if you have existing cards with natwest, but simply may not be favourable and more likely to decline.
I am however aware of others who have multiple cards without any issues.Beware Lego Men with Deep pockets...! :cool:0 -
