How much do you spend on clothes for yourself and your family per year?

If anyone had asked me this question I would have said maybe £300 for me and my daughter a year. I added it up for last year and shamefully it came to a whopping 1,900. I was actually disgusted as someone who doesn't see herself as a fashionista and loves charity shopping this was a massive wake up call. I'm currently doing a 12 month no buy on clothes for myself and only buying my daughter things when she grows out of the old stuff. I feel that my spending in this area is related to stress and the spending is totally emotionally driven so im hoping going cold turkey will get me out of this habit. However I'm interested how much others spend a year? Please be kind, I know this is ridiculous, in other areas I'm very frugal :)

  • Sorry admin just realised I should have added this to an older post. Can you close it for me?
  • Much much more than I am willing to admit to. Day before yesterday I was determined to buy no more this year. Yesterday I had an email from Debenhams blue cross event and I ordered more. Sitting here hoping I hate it all so it can go back. Have promised myself only to keep what I absolutely love. Must stop this chain of events right now. And it's not as if I have lots of clothes as the local cs benefits greatly from my haphazard spending. I think it's an aspirational thing with me trying to get the perfect wardrobe. I am also a bit ocd in other ways and definitely a control freak.
All that clutter used to be money
  • This year so far, the grand sum of . . . . .
    £4.00.
Am working my way through the clothes I already have before I buy any more.

  • So far this year OH and I have spent £1,800 on clothes and shoes, and figures work out at a pretty even split between the two of us, ie about £900 each. Funny, cos we hardly ever go clothes shopping!!

  • Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one!
  • Me £200 max per year which includes footwear, tights, smalls etc.

My OH I try not to think about :D

I need some undies and some thick tights but Other than that I am going to try and get through the winter without buying any more clothes. I have wardrobes full.

I have spent around £500 this year, including shoes and accessories, but then I was restocking basics like knitwear which had seen better days.
  • In the past 18 months I've spent £126.

I bought a 5 pack of underpants (£8) & 2 bras (£32), a t shirt (£6) and a cardigan (£20) - the latter was a want, not a need but is earning its keep, and it does replace a cardi that was well past it.

My biggest spend was just this week, a new winter waterproof jacket (£64), but it's not quite right so I'll be exchanging it.
  • £126 Is very impressive

Probably £200 or so a year depending on whether I need new shoes, this year I have bought new undies for £50 and new fitflops in the summer for £70 nothing else yet. As it gets chilly I have noticed that my go to fleece has a big hole in it so a new one may be required if I can't fix it.
