I DO NOT have the reg details....i thought they had left theirs on the envelope but they have put my reg number on it with one changed digit.

so i am going to `get off my lazy backside` now and go and do a 12 hour shift at the hospital however i expect that i will be put in front of the diciplinary commitee and struck off for this most terrible of crimes.

next time that i think i need advice i shallnt be asking on here....just complete rudeness.

The time to identify the car you hit and detrmine if there was damaged was shortly after you damaged it. Unfortunately you are becoming hysterical because you have not got the answers and re assurance that you wanted. If you cannot handle the right answers then you should not have asked on a forum.
What does 12 hour shift at the hospital have to do with it other than raise the question if you are fit to drive after such a long and stressful shift.
Re no damage to your car this does not mean the other car is not damaged.
You are the only one that is coming across as self righteous here.

Please take a deep breath and start again, ask yourself if someone hit and damaged your car which was your pride and joy how would you like them to behave?
  • there cannot be one driver who hasnt had thier car clipped whilst driving etc.....
Whilst I don't agree with that and suspect there are very many who haven't, I'd expect the culprit would normally stop and check what damage they may have caused, they may even exchange details instead of driving away from the scene of an accident . .

I have had someone do this to me. The replacement part may have only been £15 from a scrap yard but I lost a days holiday driving round scrap yards to source one and then fitting it. Real cost was closer to £100.

Thankfully ebay has put an end to having to go around scrap yards these days (not that many where you can go round exist anymore.

    Amazon is often good too.

I have had to replace 3 mirrrors over the years! Fitting is pretty easy too. Though at least on of those mirrors was my mother driving into a post exiting the drive ;-)

I also got a reaplcement bonnet in the right colour of ebay too (other one was obviously a manufacturing defect and rusted badly, but not in warranty!)

The advantage of the scrap yard is you can check the quality of the replacement part before you buy, no waiting for postage and you get to practice removing it from a car other than yours so if you break a fixing it is not the end of the world. Also nice to keep the local man in a job. Tends to be cheaper as well.

Do scrap yards still allow you to remove parts these days?

For the most part no but there are a few that still let you hunt for parts.

The title of your thread is "Any advice please." You shouldn't be surprised by the rudeness when you ask for "any advice" from a bunch of anonymous strangers on the internet. Especially considering the details in your first post.

Funny how the only person who has actually been anywhere near 'rude' is the OP.

    Generation snowflake?

Isn't it 'rude' to knowingly hit another vehicle and fail to stop and give your details? All this stuff about it being dark and nowhere to park is just irrelevant nonsense. Compounded by then wasting police time on something that is a civil matter.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
