I assume you must have been parked near (and therefore live very near) the car you hit?
Otherwise they would have had little chance of finding you.
I'd suggest (as you have no contact details) that you put a note on their car, apologising for the damage, and offer to cover the repair cost if they could get some quotes. Give your mobile number.
Why don't you suggest they comply with the road traffic act and exchange details or report the matter to the police?0 -

2. They reviewed their CCTV footage? So they have domestic CCTV that covers the public highway, sufficiently to identify a vehicle clipping their own vehicle's wing mirror? That is hardly likely to be GDPR compliant...
Could be a dash cam.0 -
I had some clip mine, it was a powered mirror and it broke the mechanism, about 12 years ago it cost me best part of £150 to get it fixed.
The glass alone on mine is over £200 plus fitting to replace (it's auto-dimming glass). I shall be taking better care of mine from now on.
Crikey. I've had decent cars for less than that.tiggerbodhi wrote: »They could be very upset as the quote to repair/replace the mirror housing and glass on my 5 Series BMW from a main dealer was just short of £900.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
As they have “terrible handwriting that isn’t even joined up” I wouldn’t pay either, I only reply to notes left in copper plate script on vellum.0

I think a lot of people are now deterred from reporting minor bumps because instead of being repaired at a reasonable cost people have to go to the main dealer and when they realise someone else is paying they charge inflated prices and do a massive unnecessary repair. I had a supermarket trolley hit the door of my car. A minor dinge. The supermarket agreed to pay. I got some massive quotes from bodywork places wanting to replace the door. I didn't want my door taking apart for a minor dinge so got a perfect repair for less than £100 from a dent company. Once a garage has taken something apart it's never the same ever again.0

So I rang the local police myself the following morning explaining that i had slightly clipped someones wing mirror driving home. I did not stop as it was very minor....no damage was done to my wing mirror which would have happened had it caused any damage to the other car.
Explained that i found the note on my windscreen with no contact details whatsoever etc etc....
I was told that if i did not want to literally go down the road knocking on doors which she did not recommend as she, too, felt the note was quite hostile and i didnt know who i was dealing with, to fill in an accident form on the net police website.
I received a response from them saying that nothing could be done and i would not be hearing from them.
(There is a house opposite converted into two flats which are let out....i dont know who lives there currently but their car was behind mine driving home and must have witnessed me clipping the wing mirror. They pulled up at the same time as me. The writing in the note was not `natural` writing....it was printed as though not to make the writing identifiable and i feel they put the note on my wing mirror. I dont believe anybody with an ounce of common sense would not leave contact details. I thought they had put `thier` reg number on the envelope and recall thinking it was very similar to mine...it is my reg number with one digit changed.
It is obvious that i am a rogue driver who regularly drives appallingly, going around smashing up peoples property and then leaving the scene of the crime. That i do not comply with road traffic acts and indeed i shall be on the front of all the sunday nationals this week asking people to keep a look out for me.
I think also that i absolutely must as you suggest contact my insurance company as well and may even hand myself in at the local police station as i am a complete menace. However i think the police will be too busy as they will undoubtedly be out in force with sniffer dogs and even armed searching for the person who knocked my sisters wing mirror off completely and simply put it on the boot of her car.
Apparently, also there are stricter laws coming into force for accidental car dings at supermarket car parks.......i believe its now going to be life for such evil, life destroying crimes....0 -
Grow up, find the car you clipped, contact the owner, apologise and ask if there's any damage that requires you paying for.
Honestly, what a song and dance you've made over the whole thing, and have wasted police time, for something that was your mistake in the first place. It's a trivial driving mistake that you've escalated into a nonsense because you couldn't be bothered to do the right thing in the first place.0 -
find me the owner and i will......thats why i contacted the police.
the whole crux is that i have no contact details....you are so perfect i suspect and i obviously not.
It seems that posting in the first instance is what has `escalated` this situation.
I dont believe that i am `wasting the polices time` i hae been told here that i have committed an offence and so i have owned up to the situation. I would also like to know what i am supposed to `pay up for` as you elloquently put it when my wing mirror was not even knocked out fo place and wasnt a mark on it.....i am no expert but i suspect that had i damaged this persons wing mirror there would have been something..even the slightest mark on mine.
Perfect people posting who are complete saints and never do a thing wrong especially on the road.
Dont speak to me like that either and make sure you dust your halo before you go to bed tonight.0 -
Cracking. I’m beginning to see why you reacted as you did to the note.
You’d find out what damage you may have caused and what might need paying for if you took a little trouble to find the car. But it’s easier to whine about the note and argue with strangers on a forum. Brilliant.0
