  • Thanks for the info :rotfl:

I have just applied and opened one up. As per a previous comment on this thread i have to pop into the local branch with 2 forms of ID, bit of a pain but not a show stopper.

I didn't have to go into a branch with ID - I think because I already had a Barclaycard so they had my ID from that
  • Strange, I've had a Barclaycard for about 2 years now, you would have thought my details were already there

Anyway it's not a major hassle.

When I went to the branch, it was a thinly veiled attempt to flog you more Barclays stuff. After the ID check there was the do you have insurance, loan, credit card, etc.

You would be daft going there and not expecting them to do that.

Didn't do any sales pitch at all with me., all over in 10 minutes.

    .
Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition

  • Me neither

But maybe they didn't because they'd double booked my appointment lol
  • Went in today to switch my BOS account to Barclays and go for the Blue reward scheme.
Conditions are : at least two DDs paid monthly, at least £800 paid in each month, £3 monthly fee from your current account.
Rewards are : £14 per month paid into your "Rewards" account for the first year (£11 after the fee) and £7 per month thereafter (£4 after fee). N.B. I was told the Reward account is only accessible online, not in branch.
It took 35 minutes of my time, which equates to over £220 per hour. Extra rewards mentioned but not stressed - no hard sell.

My only quibble was that the blurb that I found on my Barclays Banking app said "A monthly cash reward of up to £7 for EACH of your first two Direct Debits - or double if you switch to us" - as I pointed out to the staff member handling my switch, this should mean £14 for two direct debits, doubled up to £28 on switching !!!

I am thinking of applying for a Premier Account this week. However, i am now wondering whether Barclays will deem my monthly credits enough. I have a basic salary of £55k but i get a annual bonus of between £20-30k and throughout the year i can work abroad and earn extra income, which over the past 3 years has taken my yearly earnings to over £100k. I'm not sure if Barclays will review the account on a monthly basis and deem me ineligible for it. I guess it might be worthwhile opening one and running the account.

I don't think they review it that much once you're in.

I was randomly upgraded to Premier around 4 years ago. Never applied or anything, the welcome letter just arrived one day.

I've never earned close to the requirements, though I think what happened was that I'd transferred savings (£20k ish) into the account twice in a year, as I was swapping between savings accounts and used my Barclays current account to hold the cash temporarily. Computer must have said yes.

4 years on and I'm still on it (and loving the daily Patiserrie Valerie coffees). One year I paid next to nothing in, as I was between contracts and lived off what was in my current account for 10 months.

You do get called up every 3-4 months for a chat, to discuss investment goals etc. Normally they call at a bad time during the day when I'm at work, but I don't mind as it's a small price to pay for the coffee ;-)

BTW When I was upgraded my debit card remained the same. However, when it naturally expired and I was sent a new one it was the black Premier debit card.

Barclays Premier call me today - introduction call as new customer etc...

Immediately offered to send out a Premier debt card to replace the standard one I was sent when I opened.

Also they can handle the bank account switch over the phone - no need to go into a branch. I've put that off till next week as I want to check all running well with account, but will def be doing it to make sure I get the triple rewards.

Do you meet the criteria or just going to transfer in £4.5k each month?
