It's not a matter of harming our computers is it. But it's like having someone looking over your shoulder all the time. I didn't like the idea - though I accept I'm probably being silly given the sort of information I've shared! Anyway I didn't like the fact that we weren't being given any choice in it so I left.0

Well I suppose, at the end of the day, there's no such thing as a free luncheon voucher
.
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0 -
I got this email earlier and having read the Privacy Policy I was interested in this part:
We have two Cookies which we use in relation to your personal data:- the Basic Cookie we send to your computer stores only basic information which you enter into the Site, which may include your name, address, phone number and email address. It is possible for Research Now to retrieve the information stored in the Cookie; however this retrieval is unlikely at the current time; and
- the Advanced Cookie incorporates a key which can identify tags contained in certain on-line advertisements relating to our clients and their products, services and other information (the Advanced Cookie). If you click on an advertisement including the tag, the key will send Research Now an update confirming that you have linked to this advertisement. We use this information for the purposes specified above. We ensure that tags are not included in any advertisements which could provide information which amounts to sensitive personal data, for example information about your religious beliefs, your sexual life or your health. ( http://www.valuedopinions.co.uk/index.php?id=9 )
Now this is either good - you might get more surveys and for stuff that actually interests you; or bad - you are subject to more "big brother" watching and they may be getting "free" market research information from you with no need to pay you anything.
If you are not happy being "watched" you could just clear your cookies after visiting VO site and before you surf the rest of the net. That's what I will do.
The fact is though, I think it really should be a choice rather than an opt out scheme.
MrsB.
It's only a game

Cookies aren't spyware, the word "tracking" isn't really the best way to describe it. This forum, for example uses cookies to determine which thread's you've read and to keep you logged in over many sessions.0

I'm having the same problem. got a link last week for a diary study on snacks and the link just brings up a blank page, got it again today and the same. Emailed VO and had no reply so not sure what is going on but maybe my pc is blocking the tracking cookie and that somehow is preventing me from viewing the survey?
Not got ad blocking on or anything either
EDIT:
Yep thats looks like it!
What I did was go into settings, privacy and set an exception for http://www.valuedopinions.co.uk and click allow
Then clicked view cookies, found valued opinions and deleted all the cookies for that site.
Exit settings then clicked the link again and YAY it worked0 -

MrsB.
I agree with this whole heartedly. I've been with Valued Opinions for ages but am very unhappy that they've assumed I'll be happy with them effectively monitoring what I click on and I'm really not a private person - if I was, I would not have given them all the personal information that I have.
Agreed with MrsB, it should be an opt out scheme. I've emailed Valued Opinions to tell them so too. High horse or not, I'm considering leaving them over this.0 -
It threw me out of a survey half way through today, and now refuses to let me log on to the main site. Tried the above method but still getting a blank page after I click on member login. Off to try with horrible Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.
Edited to add: apart from the fact that my IE doesn't have all the normal toolbars, I think I have managed to set it to allow. Still won't load VO tho. Off to the Techies board!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Not having any probs with Valued Opinions. As I accessed their site through my laptop will that it affect me completing surveys via my pc or will it download these cookies everytime you click one of their links? I'm still confused by technology!0
