Part time courier jobs

my first post
my misses works for a local courier company on a self employed basis.she rings in in the morning and goes on the list and when its her turn they give her a job delivering and so on etc etc.if you like driving and going to different places then it could be for you but to get the best jobs you do have to be on call a lot and be flexible and it helps if the firm are actually busy enough and pay ok to make it worth your while.she gets 70p a mile and i think 80p for out of hours and weekends.she drives a berlingo multispace which is ideal as with the seats up its a great MPV but put them down and its a nice small van.hardly any jobs for cars really as most companies say a small van even though when you get there it could be just an envelope! but if you have a van or can at least drive one you will have more of a chance of getting some work.today she is delivering tropical fish to various pets at home in the kent area driving the fish company's transit and yesterday she only had the two jobs to crawley just near gatwick and then to the O2 arena.
some weeks might get not much say a few london jobs (as we live just outside the M25 there are a lot of these)and these can be a pain as its not far but traffic is a nightmare and takes a long time for not much profit, but othertimes she's had loads and all decent journeys so pay is good.also sometimes ive gone with her and we've had a day out with the little'un lol, scotland, cardiff even the isle of wight and paris can you believe!!
look in the local paper as most local firms will advertise if they want drivers but as i said it is very up and down what jobs and when you will get them
as for DEYA and delivering yellow pages/thompsons we've done this many a time and even gone 30 odd miles to do an area if we can get the extra petrol on top as they are desperate for it to be done but mostly every year we will do a local estate near us which is 1800 books and we have them all over the house for that week.takes a solid 8 hours a day to do it but knowing the estate helps a lot and also i couldnt dream of doing it in a car as it would mean 6/7 trips a day not 2/3.pay is not good but its for a bit extra isnt it and can wait for a month for payment sometimes.thompsons we've stopped doing as it just aint worth it no more but will do the yellows again next year probably.
hope this info helps a few people0 -
Hi
All income has to be declared to the tax man no matter how small. There is a certain amount that you don't have to pay tax on but you still have to declare earnings so the tax man knows whether you have gone over that amount or not. Everyone gets that allowance so you're not missing out earning extra as you pay tax on the amount that goes over. Hope that makes sense.
I'm not a tax expert so i'm not sure of the exact amounts and percentages
Hope that helped0 -

Interesting topic as I saw 2 ladies in a small car delivering Next packages this morning and wondered how they got the work! Now I know
Parcelnet website is now http://www.hermes-europe.co.uk/default.html
There's no way I could do, or want to do the catalogues, but delivering packages in my area is worth looking at as I've been out of work since March and need to find something.0 -
just started delivering ikea catalogues
2120 off them in a decent sized area which starts about 1/2 mile from my house
did 420 in 3 hours with my neice today - ok but hard work
going to do about 1200 hopfully tomorrow with 4 helpers
they are getting 5p each per book and I will get the rest which will work out at about £80 for me and rest for them
my neice will get £10 for helping me to delivery the 420 today (1/2 total x5p approx £10)
problem is where to store 2120 of these little catalogues?0
