Hi. Anyone know of any catalogue companies that I can apply for to either deliver catalogues or items on a drop off/pick up basis from home. Desperate for some extra cash and know this is something I can do efficiently. Thanks
  • Hi K1mmie

I have not had the luck but why not go for Betterware.

    Its free to start.

  • Yellowpages are advertising again for the new year.

I would stay clear of that though.

  • Hi, The Kaiser

I worked for Parcelnet as a courier for a while and had to deliver for various companies including Next. The Next stuff actually was a bit of a nightmare as a lot of the clothes came in garment bags with hangers and were supposed to be hung until delivered. Some mornings I was sent up to 25 hanging garments and knowing how particular Next was I used to worry about them, even though I made sure everything I was responsible for got to its destination in pristime condition. Someone from Next often used to phone me when I was out and about on the round to ask if I really was going to deliver to certain customers that day as they'd requested and paid for express delivery! It used to irritate me to be checked up on like that as I never once failed to get stuff delivered on time and I had a huge very rural area to cover.

The Parcelnet staff were lovely, it was just the Next ones who were a bit high and mighty!

I just made a purchase with Next and they actually phoned to check up with whether I received the items on time. (before 1pm) So I am guessing they have had alot of complaints for late deliveries and trying to keep track.

Nope - it's because they value customer input and want feedback. Trust me - I know!
  • I did the phone book deliveries a couple of years in a row, and some of the above comments are true about it being a potential hassle.

I almost gave up after oneo street starting a route on my own and all the walking to and from the car just to get five books to deliver, etc!

However, I found a way that it can be done efficiently (and therefore a better rate per hour).

I got 2 more friends involved (was the summer and we were all about 17/18) and filled up the car then one person drove, and the other two did one side of the road each as the car moved along and stopped every 5 houses or so. This massively cut down on the wasted time that most of the other people mention above.

We did above 5 routes and shared the cash 3 ways - was quicker than just doing one route each I reckon, and more enjoyable.

Usually the catalogue people rent a local site for about 3 or 4 days to run the whole area from, so we applied to work as loaders in the day (putting the books from the lorries into peoples cars, including filling our own), then when they shut at 5pm, we would get out and clear all of ours, so we could get another route done the next day, etc. When you add in the pay from the loading, it worked out well, if you don't mind a bit of hard physical work (good exercise though, and was the summer, so could catch last orders and sit in a pub garden to recover!)

Another avenue that got a few more quid in was the backchecking, where you check a sample of each route to ensure they were properly delivered - ie no chucked in the garden, etc.

    Hope this helps
