I did some work for them in July as a home courier delivering catalogues. This work is for only 4 times a year. Hard work for little money, plus I don't think its good for your car all that stopping and starting.0

oh i thought it was to deliver the goods from catalogues,i have got someone coming round on wed so will wait and see what they say.
thanks0 -
It will depend what job you are going for, will you be employed by them or will you be self employed?0

not really sure i filled in an application of interest online a few weeks ago,got a call yesterday from them but they didnt say what job was for and i stupidly did not ask.believe i will be self employed as someone is coming round to my house tomorrow to see me and to see what kind of storage space i have.guess i will find out then0

When I applied for the self employed they only did the catalogue delivery 4 times a year, they employed their own delivery drivers. Nobody came round to my house for the interview. It might of changed and maybe they need people or the christmas period. It could also be different depending where you live, I went to the Leeds office.
You've got nothing to lose by having an interview and this could work out well for you, I found it alot of work but I also have a full time job so don't have a lot of spare time.
Good luck and lets us know how you get on0 -
You should be aware that if they expect you to store any goods you'll invalidate any home insurance policy you have (unless you inform your insurance company and pay the extra premium) if you're running a stock carrying business from home, clerical business are usually OK regarding insurance issues0

I did the catalgue delivies earlier in the year, and I met the local manager, from what I could gather, general job enquires on the website will get you doing the catalogues, however if you want to be a courier with them it's a whole different ball game. He said they were looking for van owners (transit size) and that people with vans could earn up to £180 a day, and that if they lived near the depot they could collect the parcels every day rather than having them stored at their own house. As for courier work with smaller vans and cars, well he didn't say, but I think if you work for them on an employed basis rather than self employed I think it's all different again.
However on the catalogue side of it, I did 400 books, which I didn't think would be too many as it wasn't the really big books, and wow - they took up most of my lounge for the 4 weeks I was doing it. I earnt £150, which is ok, but when you consider it was 4 weeks, 5 days a week and about 4-5 hours a day, thats 100 hours so I was only getting £1.50 an hour. OK, if there is two of you it's much easier, but even so the money will go down if you have to split it between two people. Then there's the fuel - you have to pay for that. Plus if you haven't got a sat nav (which I don't), then you have to keep checking your map, to find those really difficult houses.
And then you get difficult people, one bloke chased me for 1.5 miles because he didn't want the book. Now that put me off. Needless to say I didn't stop the car, I went straight home, I thought he was going to smash me over the head with it or something!
Anyway - would I do it next time? To be honest no, the exercise was good, but I could have made much more than that if I'd have sat at home and finished the dresses I was making!
Thats just my opinion, many other people probably earn more and work faster, but for those of us, who can only fit it in around school hours it can be a little tricky and it does take over your house.0 -
Hi there,
I started my first campaign for HDNL ( Home Delivery Network Ltd ) in July 2006 and took a month to do 993 catalogues. Since then, I've been steadily increasing my workload and this last campaign, which was a three week one, I delivered 1,440 catalogues. The previous one was four weeks long and I dropped more than 2,000.
I guess I'm lucky in that I have a great manager. I asked him for an area local to me after doing four campaigns at an area across town and I got my own road and every one around it. They pay quickly and fairly and are, IMO, great employers.
Purplepixi - that sounds quite steady progress, dare I say it.;) You will get quicker as you go along. I sort the envelopes into road alphabetical order, i.e Acacaia Avenie, Allington Rd etc as it speeds up when out on the road. I then print off those roads on a Word document so that when I get to a road, I can see immediately which houses I'll be going to. I also use an A-Z and shade in the roads which I will be visiting which also speeds things up. On a collection of 400 catalogues, I'd say it would take about two hours to organise your paperwork as explained.
Delivering them is then so easy. If I get more than five or six in a road, I'll park up midway along the road and drop them one by one rather than stopping and starting. I was slow to start with but with every campaign, I get quicker and quicker, I average around 40-45 an hour now. This makes an average earn of £16 an hour which even with fuel and the time for doing the paperwork factored in, is good money.0
