As far as I can see, the OP never claimed they wanted compensation so to start attacking a forum member on the assumption that they do is pretty nasty when this is supposed to be a helpful forum. As far as I can see, they want to help others in making sure McDonald's have the correct labelling for their products. Why would a vegetarian even THINK of eating anything from McDonalds?
Maybe because she was with family and it was their choice? Anyway, that's not really any of your business and unrelated to the query. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

I am a Vegetarian of 43 years since 1975.
The rest of the family are not. But my daughter often buys from McDonalds approx once a fortnight. They now have a Vege de luxe burger which is approved by the Vegetarian Society so I always have that. However the last time we all had McDonalds meals I bit into the Burger and instantly realised it was a meat one. My daughter tells me it was a chicken burger - and it had been put into a Vege Box. I was pretty upset they had done this so I tried to phone the local outlet in Ferndown, Dorset. But there phone was constantly engaged. So I tried to phone McDonalds UK HQ but I just got left hanging on the phone with music. This went on until they closed at 6pm.
I therefore put an email together and sent it to Paul Pomroy, UK CEO plus a copy to McDonalds CEO in USA and a copy to the local outlet plus the Food Standards Agency. [I always find its best to complain as high up the chain of command as you can]
To date I have heard nothing - not even an acknowledgement.
As an aside to this, and bearing in mind the horrific allergy stories we have been hearing lately, I think this has implications with regard to food labelling. In other words its fine to label the ingredients of all food - but what happens if they put the food in the wrong container/wrapping.
Any ideas about what I can do if nobody seems interested. Thanks
What a stupid way to make a complaint!. If you had followed the correct complaint procedure then you probably would have got a response by now and had it all sorted.
The obvious first thing to do would be to take it back to the restaurant and tell them about the mistake so the people who did it know what happened. Then maybe send an email complaint if your not happy with their response.
But going straight to the CEO is ridiculous and way over the top!.0 -

As a vegi I wouldnt eat there as I wouldnt trust the staff to even care about handling meat/vegi stuff and hygiene in between.
You could say that nowhere is safe to eat out at if you are really that worried.
As a veggie I do what I can to minimise the risk but it's not always in our hands as to what practices restaurants and takeaways have in place, 99% have none.
Subway for instance, I ask them to change their gloves which they always do but there is nothing you can do about other staff handling the veg after putting chicken ,ham etc on another customers sub. The level you want to go too is out of our control. You can only minimise risks but you will always have contamination somewhere some of the time.
You need to accept that and move on, it's not doing you any harm so lifes to short to worry about whats not in your control.0 -
I love these threads :j

Not convinced that they are complaining about labeling and for purely altruistic reasons to be honest...
Their issue is that they were served a chicken burger instead of a veggie one. They've then escalated it fairly quickly, instead of simply going in store and getting it replaced/possible goodwill, which is erring on the side of "storm in a teacup" .
They had no qualms with the packaging per se! To quote OP, "it had been put into a Vege Box" - so the packaging exists to differentiate one burger from another. It was merely human error being put into the wrong box. The labeling RE: what item *should be* in the box is more than adequate. The rest of it is sort of common sense on the part of the consumer (check before you bite into it)0
