  • I received a letter from Intrum Justitia on the 10th March 2008 stating that I owe £5.87!!! I haven't dealt with Britannia since 2000/01 I just couldn't believe it! Anyway I wrote to them and asked them for a statement, invoices etc and informed them that I had not received anything from them since 2001.

I received their reply on the 12th April apparently I ordered Hot fuzz which cost me £45.87 I paid £40.00 so £5.87 remains outstanding, yeah right, that film came out last year didn't it, which I haven't even seen! Anyway I rang them this morning and the lady said "oh are you settling your bill" I said no way I haven't even received it, she said oh it's only £5.87 so I said the amount doesn't matter I don't owe it, so she said oh for that amount we'll write it off, but she said you may still receive letters though as they come out automatically!!! So I'm not going to follow up with a letter, stating they provide me with written confirmation that they are going to write off this amount which isn't mine! Problem is do I have to keep this then for another 7 years which in that time I have married therefore changed my name and moved!!

    What a nightmare!!!

 nikkicox if you had no contact with brittania or IJ in last 6 years or so any debt you may have had would be statute barred anyway. if Ij keeps contacting you over something you do not owe, go to your local citizens advice or trading standards office for help and advice, IJ are just a pain in the neck ,also how can they enforce a debt, they say is owed, if the person writing to you does not sign the letter, auto generated letters are a waste of time. seek advice if you feel you are being ignored and lets see if they ignore some one like trading standards,if they dare at all, also any contact after you last spoke to IJ could be harrassment. Myself i am trying to get IJ to listen to me,on saturday i Sent an email attaching a copy of my administration order document,i also told them that charges they have added to my account are unlawfull verging on fraud,i also informed them that i have informed nottingham County court enforcement office of IJ chasing me for a debt listed on my order. lets see if they ignore that.
  • Hello all,

I too seem to have apparently over-looked owing money to brittania and have been sent a letter by intrum justitia, I recieved a letter demanding £30 something pounds. When I queried this they dropped it to £11 something.

I tried to explain to them that my account with brittania had been closed a long time ago, as I got sick of them sending me rubbish DVDs. but they insisted I needed to pay.

My son has been ill and had a op, which meant he couldn't leave the house for 2 weeks due to the risk of infection , which meant I couldn't get to my bank to put the funds in. They threatened to charge me again, when I agreed I'd pay. Madness.

So today I rang to see if I could sort the matter out, only to be told I face more charges. I got annoyed and the young lady I spoke to was rather rude, so I asked to speak to her supervisor, am awaiting that call now, but have sent them an email requesting my account details and all statements of account action.

Lets see where we go from here!!

Hi all i had a phone call from IJ at just after 3pm today, lady asked for me i told her she was speaking to me,she asked for clarification of my details,i refused to give them,i put it to her that she should have my details in front of her she said she did,i then told her in that case as she rang me i do not have to give her my details,in that case she said call ended. I had sent an email to ij pointing out they have no authority to chase me for the debt by order of county court. i guess they ignore everything that is said to them, and only beleive what they say. what a bunch of w*****s the lot of them. i think it is time i brought in trading standards on this matter to put an end to this once and for all. If anyone has to contact IJ i recommend you do so by mail, sent recorded delivery and tell them they owe you £25 for administration costs in having to write to them. Do not email or phone them because these can be ignored, same goes for them calling you,the call is not legally binding as not seen as evidence. also the letters that are sent are automatically sent out, and are not signed by anyone from Intrum Justitisa, i beleive that makes them illegal because anyone could have sent the letter.
  • Well have copied the letter that has been posted on here, a big thank you for that and I shall be sending it by recorded delivery this afternoon.

i had an email from ij today stating that they were acting on behalf of their client. due to me disputing the claim they have sent it back to their client.
if their client is brittania music and film (in administration) how can ij send the account back. something sounds wrong here. if IJ represent brittania then why was the member not previously told brittania are in administration. also why did it take almost a year for IJ to start chasing up so called debts. I have posted a letter today copied from this site telling Ij the account is in dispute and not to contact me unless they have evidence. i await their reply.

Ref post 120 - haven't heard anything since sending this letter. Lets hope it's the last I hear - but somehow don't think so!

I have had huge problems in the past with IJ - more worryingly it now appears that they are in charge of chasing DWP and social security debts/overpayments for the government! This is taken from their website today - read on:

Intrum Justitia’s UK subsidiary is one of a number of companies appointed to help reduce outstanding debt for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The Liverpool based company will work with the DWP to ensure that outstanding Social Security payments and corporate accounts are collected for the department and that Child Support Agency payments are obtained from non-resident parents on behalf of the families who need them.
The appointment to the framework was won through a competitive tender process, where Intrum Justitia proved that they have the expertise and the resources to work successfully on high profile-nationwide projects.
Owen James, UK Managing Director of Intrum Justitia, said: “We are proud that we will have a key role helping the DWP to modernise welfare. This is a significant account for Intrum Justitia which has good potential to develop during 2008 and beyond.
Inclusion in this framework will also give the potential for us to work with other Government Departments in the future. We recognise the part Intrum Justitia has to play in terms of communicating with the DWP’s customers and the reallocation of monies to many needy families across the UK”.
  • Re post 150... update.

I have not heard anything from IJ. It's been one calendar month. I sent the letter with the £1 cheque, etc, and I have had no response. What should I do?

Mines sorted, rang them up the other day to find out whats happening and they have written off the amount that was due in error. So it should be all over but am keeping those letters they sent for reference.

I think that could be the case for a lot of you, just give them a bell to put your minds at ease.
