  • I just received the same demanding letter today, at first I was in shock thinking I was being subjected to some kind of fraud, so I phoned them to find out exactly why they think I owed them, the asked me for the reference the number, then my address (all printed on the letter) but then they started to ask for more personal details and I replied that I was not going to give them any further any information until I had more details about them and why they thought I owed money at which point I was told they would not speak to me any further!

All I wanted to know is why they thought I owed money, especially as I haven't been a member of britannia now for more than 5yrs. My membership did end in dispute as they kept sending me the editors pick even though I was cancelling them online, had the same problem with my previous membership back in the early 90's when it was all mail order but this time round they had no excuse as it was all dealt with online
  • Hi folks

Just received a letter back from IJ after I sent my recorded delivery letter. I would suggest that this is the safest route to go as at least I have in wrting that I will never be hearing from them again. They state of course that I did not enter into a signed agreement and they could not provide me with the information I requested doh!! and that I should contact Britannia Music and Film if I have any further requests as my account has been passed back to them. I will receive no further telephone calls or correspondence from them (IJ). I understand how everyone feels as this did stress me out and it seems they are still sending out letters to people. Don't pay if you don't owe, send the recommended letter requesting details of the credit agreement and enclose a cheque or postal order for £!, it will be sent back to you. I'm so glad I came across this site. :T:beer:

afternoon all. I do not understand what information is given to Anfield Delight by IJ,the letter i got from IJ states that brittania music & film are in administration and we should only contact IJ. If brittania are not in administration then IJ have shot themselves in the foot by saying you need to contact brittania. May be somebody can enlighten me, are brittania in administration or not. I told the county court that according to IJ,brittania music and film are in administration, this info was passed to the courts enforement officer for investigation. So what is right,IJ seem to have two different ideas, not to contact Brittania,or contact them, no wonder credit agencies are in a mess.
  • Hello People,

I had a letter from IJ, they say that I owe them £52.97!!!!

When I call them about it they said that I owe money from 2 previous DVDS, one I never had and one I bought with my card, then a charge for not ordering.

When I said to them that i dont owe it they argued with me and I slipped in about the complaints that are on here and said that there was hundreds of complaints, they just hung up on me, which made me laugh, becuase i knew i rattled them :D

I am in the process of sending the letter to them now, so I will keep people posted.

Any one else been taken further by the company?

    Cheers.
  • Hi

IJ acually make up to 10p a minute profit from you for every phone call. Try using 01514 727155 instead. For all 0870 numbers and the like try the website www.saynoto0870.com to find alternative landline numbers.

Hope this is of some use.
  • I received a letter from Intrum Justitia saying I owed £25 to Britannia. I knew for a fact that it had been at least two years since I had ordered a DVD from music and film as they were and I knew that I didn't owe them any money.

I did a google search and found the threads on here about it. After viewing the threads and seeing the proposed letters that were advised to be sent, I got pen to paper straight away and sent them a cheque for £1 asking them for a copy of my credit agreement and details of outstanding money owed to Britannia.

I today got a reply from Intrum Justitia, sending me back my cheque for £1 and saying that I didn't enter into a credit agreement with Britannia and I used their services appropriately. They also said that I would not receive any further telephone calls or correspondence from them.

If you have been sent a letter from Intrum Justitia and they are trying to get money out of you for Britannia, write to them using the letters suggested in the threads and send them a cheque or £1.

I also sent the letter by recorded delivery just in case the letter went "missing".

I'm so pleased with this result.

Thanks to everyone who posted a thread on this subject.

Thank you Mazoulli. :T My so-called debt started at £48.05 (which I refuted by letter) and has now gone up to £60.55. I have had two letters and one phone call, which ended abruptly when I refused to confirm my address to the girl on the phone. I have today done what you did - letter on the lines of the model provided by tigerfeet2006 on the first page of this thread, and I have sent them (with gritted teeth) a cheque for one pound.
I do not need this at my age. My next step is the CAB, and if no joy there, my Solicitor.
  • I have also received a letter from IJ saying that I owed nearly £40 and if I didn't pay then another £20 would be added if they had to send another reminder out. I cancelled my membership ages ago and never received the outstanding orders that were on my account and paid any money owing, I don't have a debt with Britannia.

I have rung IJ to let them know and they have referred it back to Britannia. I have now received a letter from IJ saying that the amount has been written off by them. When I asked them for a list of what was unpaid they didn't have that list.
  • I received a letter this morning (3 Apr 2008) though it is dated 26 March. It states that I owe £83.02 and that because I had not responded to a previous corresopndence (no details given of when this letter was sent but I rang 01514732626 and spoke to "Susan" and she said that a letter was sent on 3 March).

    The letter reads:

    Dear Sir

    Reference No. xxxx
    Creditor: Britannia Music & Film
    Outstanding Balance: £83.02

We recently wrote to you to advise that the administration of your account has been passed to Intrum Justitia from Britannia Music & Film (in administration).

We have not received a response from you and as per our previous letter an administration charge has been added to the balance.

Please either use the tear off slip below to make your payment or contact us to make your payment by debit or credit card.

If there is a reason why you have not made a payment please call us to discuss in order that we may bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.

    Yours faithfully,

    Intrum Justitia Limited

Susan, who I spoke to, stated that the £20 admin fee was levied by Britannia, even though the letter states that IJ added it! Second paragraph! She was quite insistent on this point.

Anyway, she told me the products that I have apparently not paid for and, fair enough, I do remember ordering them, but I did not receive them. This was in April/May 2007. What can I do?

I have sent the letter, with a £1 cheque for IJ, as detailed on here requesting information under the CCA 1974. Sent recorded delivery to this address:

    The Plaza
    5th Floor
    100 Old Hall Street
    Liverpool
    L3 9QJ

You cannot send recorded delivery to a PO Box, so use this address. I shall update here about the reply I get.

What I find frustrating is that there are no details/statements of charges provided by IJ. How do they expect people to respond when they send out such impolite correspondence that demands payment without explanation.

An added complication for me is that I moved house six months ago. I had post redirected for three months and changed all addresses but because Britannia had gone in to admin and there were no offices open I could not change address.

    Anyway, let's see what happens!

Hi i also got a second letter from IJ regarding brittania music & film (in administration). also 20 pounds added for not calling them. Well i have no intention of contacting Idiot Justice, reason being i have an administration order in place which covers brittania and other debts. When i first got a letter from ij, i informed the county court on this matter and details of ij was passed to the county courts enforcement officer for investigation. So intrum can take a leap of a tall building, no money off me at all.:rotfl:

i have rang intrum justitia about fact that i ahve court order, all they kept saying is they do not deal with this, they want me to send a copy of order to them,i told them i have been told not to sent a copy of this document( lie) also told them that brittania should have forwarding them all documents at time of transfer of debt to them, i offered to tell them court reference number they are not intrested. due to this and the fact that i was not told when brittania went into administration, i do not beleive intrum justitia have the authority to chase this debt. ignorant people working for intrum justitia, do not listen, try to pass problem back to brittania. So is it or is it not true that brittania music are in administration or is this a con by intrum to try and justify their claim. more toughts on this please.
