  • my girlfriend has received the exact(ish) same letter from intrum justitia stating that they owe me moneyonly difference is its not from brittania but from a client called "candid collections", a firm she or i, have never heard of???

again it doesnt state the amount they owe her etc etc.

i am of the opinion that they are just fishing for details so they can then harass you over an unpaid debt from long ago, and to confirm you are still staying at the address and wanting your phone number.

i dont think she is going to reply to the letter, but instead maybe send a "nice" :) letter back to them asking for more details or to stop sending unsolicited mail to her.

Yikes can anyone help with some advise?

I have just heard about this!

I moved house late summer, I tried to contat Britannia online to no avail as their website was u/s. So I wrote to them to cancel my account etc.

I had my mail forwarded to me, but I know that Royal Mail were lax on this and screwed up for a about a month whe I got some-one elses mail and they got mine I think! Thats another story - usual incompetence!

So my dilema is that I have no idea if I have been chased for money like you all, if they received my cancellation etc! I hadn't heard anything so presumed my account was cancelled etc!

I am now very concerned as my mail is no longer being forwarded and worried that if they have sent me a bill and obvioulsy I have not responded if I will have a black mark against my credit etc.

Hope someone could advise me what to do.
    Many thanks

  • Just got a letter from IJ yesterday saying I owed them £21.99 :confused:which I don't:confused: I have not received anything from Britannia in the past 2yrs. When I rang they were not very concerned but were able to tell my that I owed this money for a Pink Panther DVD they could not tell me when - they are a joke, they said that I actually owend then £51.63 but sent them a payment for £29.64 so I owe them the difference ie £21.99, What a load of rubbish firstly I have never, in all my years with Britannia gave an order for nearly £60. Most of the things I ordered were special offers and the cheque was sent almost immediately on receipt of DVD etc. I take pride in paying my debts on time and I too do not want to be blacklisted. I contacted Watchdog - I don't know if they will do anything as from the information I read it was already investigated but thanks to this I sent away the standard letter recorded delivery and will wait and see what happens. I got really annoyed with the girl on the phone today:mad: which upset me even more as I an normally an easy going person. I will just have to wait and see what happens!!!! Thanks for your stories and the good advice.:rotfl::T:beer:
  • I received the dreaded letter from intrum justitia yesterday and called them today to query their letter of demand. I had tigerfeets letter (see quote below) to use as a guide and it is very useful.

I called them through there general enquiries line

    http://www.intrum.co.uk/scroll.asp?ID=imgmenu7

    listed in the link above

and explained that I was querying this amount and what is was for, they were able to tell me what the items I was being charged for were but in return I was able to tell them that I never received these items. I also stated that when Britannias' site first went down I tried to contact them after they sent me a letter making demands for money. I contacted the site option for a ringback and got little joy from them at the time and then all went quiet until now.

I explained all of the above and Intrum Justitia wrote off the 'debt' and closed the account.

I would urge people not to get in a flux over this and just contact them directly (not on the 0870 number of course)

I found them very easy to deal with
This is the letter Iwas thinking off. It asks for a copy of the signed credit agreement which they should have and provide. I would bet they don't have it. They need to provide it within 12+2 or else the account is in dispute and you don't provide it after another 30 days you don't have to pay them a bean unless they go to court to sort it.

Send it by recorded delivery so you can prove they recieved it with £1 as required by law. Obviously change details to suit you.

If you and others are still receiving demands for debts to Britannia from Intrum Justitia that you don't owe, then I'm sure BBC Watchdog would be happy to hear from you.

They did the report on this back at the end of November.

Just got home to find one of the lovely Intrum Justitia letters. Will these dodgy debt collectors ever give up?!!!

A brief history first. Many moons ago I received letters from Music and Film (check out the forum) stating that I owed them money - I did not. I told them so by letter (too cheap to call). Next I had a letter from a debt collection agency called Scotcall stating I owed them a higher amount - again told them by letter I did not. Next a letter arrived stating they were sending their debt collectors to my door - replied if they did so they would be prosecuted for tresspass. Next a solicitor's letter arrived notifying me of court proceedings - replied saying that I would be more than happy to see them in court where I would be countersuing for harrassment, loss of earnings, legal expenses etc. I also added that for every letter I wrote my charges would be billed to them at a rate of £20.00 per letter (now at £80.00!).

Never heard from them again until.............up pops Intrum Justitia.
Look, they are just another so called debt collection agency who have probably payed £5.50 or so to take over so called debts - don't pay a penny!
If you look at your letters it tells you, 'Please do not make any further payments to Britannia Music & Film', this is simply because they can't track any payments made since they bought the 'debts'. Also, please note that Britannia, Music & Film, Channel (or whatever other name they traded under) are in the hands of the administrator and therefore any outstanding debts will be collected by the administrator and not these jokers.

Further to my above posting I've sent off this letter (2nd class stamp as that's all they're getting out of me!).

Ref: Your letter dated 6th March, 2008 - XXXXXXXXXXX

I wish to inform your debt collection agency that I have no outstanding account with Britannia, Music & Film, Channel etc (or what other name they may have been trading under).

I also wish to inform your debt collection agency, as I did with others who preceded you, that the only dealings I will have in this case is directly with a court of law. If I receive any further correspondence regarding this matter it will be placed in the hands of my solicitor. Furthermore, if you intend to pursue this non-debt I will be counterclaiming against yourselves for duress suffered due to harassment, all legal costs and all personal costs relating to this case.

I therefore expect any further correspondence relating to this matter to be a recognised court summons (by registered post direct from the appointed court of law) as I will relish the opportunity to meet yourselves there. If I do not receive said summons I will assume this matter is resolved.

I got a letter dated 6th March from Intrum Justitia stating that I owed £15.99. I was thinking it's such a small sum I may as well pay it to prevent a bad credit rating.

However, after reading this, I called them on the liverpool number 0151 472 7155, got put through to the right person and very politely explained that I hadn't received anything for this sum and therefore did not have any debt with the company.

They immediately cancelled my debt account and told me I wouldn't hear from them again. Whole phone call took all of three minutes. Very easy to deal with as long as you are terribly polite! :)
