  • Received a letter today dated 14th November 2007 thanking me for my letter and stating that my account has been removed from their files.

Maybe would have liked an apology as well, but never mind.

Hope everyone else has similar success- and heres proof you don't need to pay your debt to make it go away quickly!

    Good luck.
  • I have just called them after recieving letters like the rest of us here and I asked them for proof. I was rudely told they couldn't give it to me and that by refusing to pay they would return my claim to Britannia who would probably pass it on to another debt collection agency!! I await someone else to contact me now!
  • Hi all

I too have had a debt collection notice from Intrum Justinia. Was unsuccesful in speaking to them.
I contacted 'Watchdog' from the BBC and they are running a show on this very subject next week and would like to here other peoples stories. Please fill the form in for Watchdog and try and stop these debt collectors writing to inoccent people

  • Ha,

The plot thickens ... as I have just checked my mobile phone bill and dicovered that it says in black and white that I spent exactly 5mins and 4 secs chatting to their operator (...555 phone no.) during the afternoon on Sat 16th June 2007. This is when I settled the account in full over the phone and requested that the account be closed immediately. Naturally, I never called them again after this (confirmed by later phone bills). Yet IJ alledge that £19.48 is due for a transaction/order since the 10th June 2007.

So...they have an obsolete list of debtors data prior to 16th June 2007 (possibly a few days later even due to possible banking delay of card transactions)!

PS the phone numbers stick out a mile on my mobile phone bill as musicandfilm are the only premium numbers I called and end in 111 OR 555 -that's premium rates to place or discuss an order over the phone! talk about dodgy company!
  • Hi i have a slight problem i suffer from manic depression so what im about to say may sound easy for other people to solve but it isn't for me and hoping if anyone can ease my mind.

It all started when in end of March i end an email from Britannic Music And Film saying my account will be closed hence what i asked for on the phone the same day, I then received a DVD in the post in May i then emailed them saying why i received this DVD if my account was closed, i never got a reply so i thought well i ain't going to phone them as the last previous times i have been on the phone to them they were quite rude.

I however have sent them number of emails to them saying they sent me a dvd and my account was closed and also forwarded the email they sent me which is sadly my only proof but i have got a person's name on the email which i hope is not a fake.

Company went into admin so i couldn't email them anymore only on their webpage was a contact form where you leave a message and they will phone you back i left 3 messages but no reply.

1st November i received a letter from intrum justitia stating i owe them £17.48 and that this was something that happened 7 months ago so i guess they don't know my account is closed either, sadly i don't live at the address that they sent the letter too so i couldn't do anything about it letter said i had to pay within 7 days or they will charge me £20.00 8th november i received another letter stating that i have been charged and the amount is now £24.98.

And that i have another 7 days to pay them or they will take further action, now this is what is worrying me it's now 3:30am and i can't sleep, and offices were closed today, the DVD is also till in it's wrapper and has been untouched since i got it, and also i did see here that i don't live at this address as i live somewhere else now and the address they sent it too is my parents address, hopefully that would make a good enough reason for why i never replied back to them.

I'm hoping when i call them later that they will not be so strict and that i can fax the proof too them or they offer to pick the dvd up as i really refuse to waste my time and money sending it back when it wasn't my fault, i travel back on sunday to another location until end of december so if they sent me anything again i wouldn;t know.

Hope someone can suggest ideas for me.

    Kev
  • Hi Kev, please do not worry about this. most of us have been contacted by Watchdog after having reported it to them. It is going to be on the show on Wednesday so watch it to see what they suggest. This company cannot prove any of our debts and are just bullying people out of random amounts of money. You might want to contact Consumer Direct if it makes you feel a bit better but they will confirm that there isn't anything this company can do. If you send the DVD back (like I did) then you will not get back any money that you may have paid for it. And it doesn't cancel the debt. See what Watchdog says on Wednesday before you do anything else and I hope you get a better nights sleep tonight!
