Yes, they are the same, so if e-Buyer sell it to you sans VAT, that would seem the way to go.

I think with either you'd have to pay the VAT element and reclaim it?

    Unless Ebuyer do something different?

As intimated above, if there's a fault (and it's after 6 months) Ebuyer will simply give you a partial refund - they won't even try to use any manufacturer's warranty for you. (Perfectly legal but not good customer service).

I have no proof of this, but I get the impression that Ebuyer do this so that THEY can invoke the warranty to get a new, replacement item from the manufacturer which they can then sell at full price.

Yes of course, you are right. Just have to request an invoice I guess.

To be fair to eBuyer, when I had a problem with an external HDD failure, I did get a replacement. Though cannot remember if I had to push them.
I actually ended up with two drives, as the manufacturer also sent me a replacement. Neither seemed interested in having one back.

So what you write isn't the full story, as the procedure was that I follow the manufacturers links(Samsung/Seagate for replacement.

So whilst Amazon are probably quite good in that respect, I'd hate to think that they are pushing all of the smaller dealers out of business and people out of jobs.

Anyway ..... thanks all thus far.

I have ordered a genuine battery from eBay and a Samsung SSD from EBuyer - both have already sent a vat receipt ... just need to wait for the goods to arrive this weekend and then seek permission from 'The Boss' to get time off to do the fitting :D - will try it myself and report back.

If you don't hear from me ... you know it went badly! ;)

Perhaps you can take the time to find a suitable prying tool. Some people will use the corner of an old credit card to slot in and gently twist at intervals. It might be good enough.

Forgot to ask - where this time?

I was wondering that. Is there a 'specialist tool' available?
Maybe the credit card thingy is a good idea. Visa or Mastercard? ;)

Just an update and a query ...

Ebay has promised to deliver battery 'by today' - Hermes courier but no contact from anyone yet.:o

E Buyer will deliver three days time and are using Yodel ... :(

I have a W10 iso 64 bit on CD from quite a while ago.
    If I go here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
will that be any more up to date than the one I already have?

It depends on how long "quite a while ago" actually means. :)

If you get a fresh copy you'll get the latest one with most patches already in place. (Although it probably won't be the latest 1809 update ... I was reading that they've pulled it due to some people updating and losing personal data and files).

    I would guess at 3 years. :)

    Sounds like a plan.

On another note, the battery due to arrive before today ... hasn't! :(
